Quick Verdict
My dog Stubbs and I personally loved the Casper Dream Mattress. It’s a medium-firm hybrid, that offers support and responsiveness, but not necessarily deep contouring.
After I spent three nights on it, the mattress stood out to me for its easy-to-move-on feel, balanced comfort, and its bounciness.
However, it should be noted that it does not hug the body deeply, like lots of other memory foam beds do.
So, ultimately, if you want a mattress that feels supportive, springy, and lies slightly on top of the bed – the Casper Dream is a great choice for you. If you want a sinking, melting, slow feeling – you should look elsewhere.

How We Scored
I personally tested the Casper Dream Mattress for three consecutive nights. While I mostly sleep on my stomach, I rotated between back, side, stomach and combination sleeping.
I also performed the following, standardized and targeted tests:
- Edge sitting + lying tests
- Bounce and response timing
- Drop tests to check for motion transfer
- Overnight heat retention and thermal feel
- Personal notes after each sleeping session
In addition, I also looked at objective performance data. This includes sinkage depth, bounce height, and response time.
This mattress demonstrated very high bounce, and minimal sinking.
Hands-On Testing
I did lots of hands-on testing with this mattress. It is very hyped up on the internet, and thus, I was excited to try it out.
I opened the Dream on a cold day, which would normally not matter.

But due to the memory foam, it did appear slightly misshapen, until it warmed up.

Additionally, there was definite off-gassing at first – so if you’re sensitive to smells, that should be noted.

Now, onto the comfort of this mattress.
Comfort
My first impression of the comfort of this mattress was that it felt a little bit buoyant, and definitely well-balanced.

On my first night on this mattress, I tossed and turned a little bit – but this may have been due to the coldness of my room, not necessarily the mattress itself.
The mattress definitely felt supportive, and yet it did not feel hard or uncomfortable. The Dream provides a thin layer of cushioning, but I didn’t feel myself sinking in at all.
Unlike some mattresses that have memory foam, I didn’t feel like I was sleeping “in” the Dream – it very much felt like I was sleeping on top of it.
That was the first night.
The second night, I started to feel a little bit of a floating sensation, and was easily able to reposition myself, when I started to feel uncomfortable.
On the third night, I spent more time of my side, which felt comfy, but not super-plush or anything like that. My shoulders felt like they were compressed a bit on the surface of the mattress, but the Dream definitely felt like it was supporting me – not hugging me.
Mattress Millionaires Opinion: The Casper Dream will be comfortable for most sleepers, but it’s not the softest mattress ever made.
Firmness
If you look to Casper’s documentation, they will call the Dream a medium firmness mattress. I disagree, I would classify it more as a medium firm – a 6/10.
During my personal testing, here’s what I found to be true of the Casper Dream:
- stomach sleeping: supportive and very solid
- back sleeping: an ideal firmness for resting
- side sleeping: a little firm if you’re lighter, but I only slept on it for 3 nights
If you have slept on other hybrid mattresses, the Dream won’t feel that dissimilar. It has the very classic feel of a hybrid – supportive underneath, but with a slightly cushioned top layer.
Pressure Relief
If you are looking for deep contouring, or if you are particularly sensitive to pressure points – this is not the mattress for you.
Let me be clear about that.
However, I didn’t mind this, and for me at least – the Casper Dream felt comfy and provided just the right amount of support.
I scribbled down some helpful notes, though I did write them after 11PM, and while half-asleep, so… 🙂
My personal testing notes for pressure relief on the Casper Dream:
- Back: lots of pressure relief, possibly the most comfortable position
- Shoulders: a bit of pressure after about 30 minutes on my side
- Hips: no deep sinking, good support
I can only provide the data and notes for my particular weight (a healthy BMI according to the CDC) – and I would say this mattress sleeps fine for those of an average weight.
Support
Overall, the support is really where this mattress shines.
I loved how supported I felt when sleeping on it, and I’m mostly a stomach sleeper.
When I was sleeping on the Dream, I felt:
- very good spinal alignment (no matter what position I slept in)
- low sagging near my hips
- very firm lumbar support
The Dream is advertised as having:
- a strong, reinforced perimeter
- foam that is zoned (it’s much firmer in the center of the mattress)
- pocketed coils
While I didn’t cut this particular mattress open myself, online images show that this advertising is true. The Casper Dream is definitely not cheaply designed, you can feel the craftsmanship when you sleep on it.
Furthermore, the aggregate testing data online shows great support performance, and very good spinal alignment.
Motion Isolation
I didn’t expect the motion isolation on the Casper Dream to be great. After all, it is a hybrid – and a bouncy one at that.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to find the motion isolation to be pretty good.
My personal testing results for motion isolation:

- Partner test: motion and movement was largely dampened
- Wine glass tests: vibration, but nothing too excessive
As can be expected, since the mattress has coils and is a hybrid – there is still some movement, but it’s not disruptive enough for most people, to cause any serious issues while sleeping.
I am a pretty light sleeper, and I personally had no issues when my partner was sleeping on the other side of the mattress.
Edge Support
I personally found the support on the edges of this mattress to be moderate, and not as strong as other hybrid mattresses I’ve tested.
I noted the following, while sitting (and lying) on the edge of the Dream:

- Measured 5 inches of compression when sitting on the edge, which is more than other hybrids
- there was a lot of sinkage when putting on my sneakers
- when lying down, the surface was much more stable than sitting and th surface was entirely useable
- no real sensations of rolling
Online data suggests that the edge support is strong with this mattress, but our testing shows otherwise.
Cooling
I was pleasantly surprised with the cooling on this particular model.
I wasn’t expecting much, but it really delivered.
Things I personally noticed during testing of the Casper Dream:
- the surface of the mattress never got warm, it stayed evenly cool
- I didn’t feel any heat buildup over the night
Casper specifies that the mattress has coil airflow, a cooling cover, more breathable foams, and also phase-change materials.
I could not independently verify these facts, but based on online images from those who did cut open this mattress, these statements seem to be accurate.
Bottom line on cooling: this mattress sleeps much cooler than many all-foam mattresses we’ve tested.
Responsiveness
This was another area where the Dream did very well.
There is easy movement on the mattress, you don’t get “stuck” in it, and it is very good for people who sleep in multiple positions each night.
When I did a response test, here are the results I experienced:

- full recovery: almost immediate
- hand press: nearly instantaneous
When looking up online, objective data, the measured response time is less than 1/2 of a second – which is very fast indeed.
This aligns with my personal experience testing this mattress.
Sinkage
The sinkage was about what I expected, from this mattress.
In short, if you want to feel “hugged by a mattress” – this is not the mattress for you.
You are not going to sink in deep – instead, it is a firm feel throughout the mattress, as you sleep on it.
Overall, the sinkage is shallow-to-moderate. Measured data online gives this mattress a sinkage depth of about 2 inches.
My personal testing notes for sinkage on the Casper Dream:
- a floaty feel, when sleeping on it
- hips stayed lifted, not sinky
- felt slight compression on my shoulders
Durability
I would expect this mattress to last about 7 to 10 years, as long as you take care of it.
I base this decision on the Dream’s hybrid design – foam and coils, high quality materials, and a 10 year warranty.
There is a small area of concern, in that the comfort layers are a little thinner, meaning the mattress may not last over 10 years, but that is not uncommon.
Off-Gassing & Noise
The mattress comes in a box, and vacuum sealed. As such, there is a definite odor – basically your typical “new mattress” smell.
The VOCs – volatile organic compounds – are strong, but most report these smells dissipate completely by day 8.
In my testing, the smell was strong for 48 hours, but then was largely gone.
I did not notice any noise during my 3 days of testing the Casper Dream – no coil squeaks, or anything else noteworthy.
Sex Performance
This is another strong area of performance for the Casper Dream.
The mattress, in my testing at least, offers:
- a very fast response
- stable surface that is entirely usable without significant sinkage
- a very high bounce
These are all key factors for ranking well, in the intimacy category.
It is one of the best hybrids for couple performance, at least that we’ve tested.
Best For
This mattress will be best for:
- couples
- hot sleepers
- combination sleepers
- back sleepers
- those that prefer a very responsive, “non-sinky” mattress
Sleep Positions
This mattress will work differently for different sleepers.
- Stomach sleepers: this mattress will be extremely supportive
- Back sleepers: excellent comfort and alignment
- Side sleepers: very solid, a little firm for people who may weigh less
Objective data and testing notes that this mattress is best for those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds.
As someone who falls right into the middle of that range, I can concur that this is accurate information.
Construction
The Dream is a hybrid mattress – at 11.5″.

The layers listed by Casper include:
- base support foam
- responsive polyfoam
- zoned memory foam (firm center of the mattress)
- pocketed coils
- cooling cover (QuickCool™)

The reason the mattress feels nice to sleep on, is that it combines supportive springs with foam that relieves pressure.
Pricing & Value
The Casper Dream is typically priced from $1,400 to $1,500 (for a queen size).
Look for deals, as it is often discounted to $1,100 to $1,300, if you look carefully.
I find this to be a relatively fair price, as you are paying a little bit of a premium for brand, and the balance of the mattress – not a plush feel.
This price is slightly above average for hybrid mattresses, but nothing too extreme, especially for a mattress that offers good performance across almost all categories.
Comparisons
Compared To Casper Dream Max
- Dream: More responsive, a little firmer
- Dream Max: more pressure relief, softer overall
Compared To All-Foam Mattresses
- Dream: more bounce, overall cooler feel
- Foam beds: offer deeper contouring
Compared To Other Hybrids
- Dream: has more responsiveness
- Less plush than most competitors
Final Thoughts
I tested this mattress for three nights, and after sleeping on it for those hours, I can say it is very much a performance-focused, modern hybrid.
It offers:
- very good cooling
- great bounce
- strong and firm support
- very good pressure relief
It is not a good option if you want something ultra-plus or luxurious – but it does provide a good, balanced experience. This will work for almost any kind of sleeper.
Mattress Millionaires bottom line:
The Casper Dream is a great mattress, if you want something responsive, supportive – and a choice that works for almost every type of sleeper.
The only person this mattress isn’t right for, is someone who wants deep contouring – who really wants to feel like their mattress is “hugging” them.
