In this hands-on Saatva Classic Mattress Review, we tested the Luxury Firm option for 3 nights toΒ evaluate firmness, pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, durability and overall value to help you decide if it is a good option for you.

Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict
The Saatva Classic is one of the strongest luxury hybrid mattresses on the market and is a ideal choice for back sleepers, combination sleepers and shoppers who want the ease and convenience of white-glove delivery.
We noticed during our testing that unlike memory foam or all-foam mattresses that offer deep contouring and make you feel like you are sinking, Saatva Classic has a very balanced feel of cushioning and lift. We measured excellent edge support and experienced better cooling that many all-foam beds.
It’s not the cheapest mattress on the market, but the organic cotton cover, construction quality and white glove delivery increase the value and justify the higher price point.
It is not an ideal mattress for couples who are very sensitive to motion transfer or anyone who prefers the sensation of memory foam.

How We Tested The Saatva Classic
At Mattress Millionaires, every product we review is tested using a clear, repeatable methodology.
- Mattress tested: Saatva Classic Luxury Firm, 11.5″
- Test period: 3 nights
- Sleep positions tested: side, back, combination, stomach
- Motion isolation: 10 lb ball-drop test
- Cooling: surface temperature test after 30 minutes
- Edge support: seated compression measurement
- Buying experience: ordered direct and evaluated delivery/setup

Buying Experience & Ordering Process
The biggest differentiator between the Saatva brand and most online mattress brands is the mattress is not shipped compressed in a box. Instead you get free white glove delivery, home set up and removal of your old mattress. This is a huge benefit if you don’t want to deal with moving a heavy box and disposing of your old mattress.
Saatva mattresses are made to order, not sitting in a warehouse waiting to ship, so plan for a delivery time of at least two weeks until you receive your mattress. We were not contacted by Saatva to schedule delivery until 3 weeks after we placed the order online. This was the longest time we had to wait to have a mattress delivered after placing the order. Most other mattresses arrived within 2 – 7 business days after we placed an order.
Ordering from Saatva’s website was straightforward, and the price was transparent without any aggressive upselling. You can choose from three levels of firmness and height choices of 11.5″ or 14.5″.
We also visited a Saatva store to compare the buying process. This was great for testing out different models. The store was sleek and upscale and the sales people were very helpful, not pushy.
Whether you purchase a Saatva online or in-store, you will feel like you are buying from a premium showroom instead of ordering a compressed mattress online.
Delivery & First Impressions
Saatva’s white glove delivery and in-home set up makes the process of getting a new mattress SIGNIFICANTLY easier than a boxed mattress. Two delivery people brought the mattress into our testing room and removed all packaging.
Our initial impression was that the Saatva Classic felt luxurious and substantial. It was soft without sinking and the organic cotton cover felt smooth, fresh and luxurious.

Additionally there was no off-gassing odor since it is made of organic cotton and was not compressed for a long period of time.
Overall, purchasing the Saatva Classic was like purchasing a luxury mattress right from the showroom, not a typical online mattress ordering and delivery experience.
Saatva Classic Layers & Construction
The Saatva Classic has a hybrid design that combines two layers of steel coils for support and targeted pressure response with a comfortable foam pillow top for pressure relief and a plush feel.
Here is a breakdown of the construction.
| Layer | Material | Purpose | What You’ll Notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cover | Organic cotton with Euro pillow top | Breathability and plush comfort | Soft, smooth, fresh surface |
| Comfort Layer | Zoned memory foam | Lumbar support and pressure relief | Subtle contouring in the lower back area |
| Transition Layer | Individually wrapped coils | Responsive comfort and motion control | Adaptive support that moves with your body |
| Support Core | Tempered steel innerspring coils | Structural support and durability | Strong lift and excellent airflow |
| Base Layer | High-density foam rail | Edge stability and reinforcement | Exceptional edge support |
One feature that really makes the Saatva Classic mattress stand out is the dual coil system. There is a base of larger coils for a solid structural support. Then on top of that is a layer of smaller coils that are individually wrapped for targeted pressure relief and support.
Saatva Classic Firmness & Feel
Mattress Millionaires Firmness Rating: 6.5 / 10
The Saatva Classic model comes in three levels of firmness to choose from. Plush Soft/Luxury Firm/Firm. We tested the Luxury Firm, which is a true medium firmness and is great for a variety of sleep positions.

The firm support and soft topper are an ideal balance. The pillow top provides softness and light cushioning and the coil layers are responsive to prevent deep sinking.
The firm comfort level is better for stomach sleepers and those who want a flatter, more rigid surface. Plush Soft is better for lightweight sleepers or anyone who wants deeper cushioning.
Sleep Position Performance

| Sleep Position | Performance Rating | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | βββββ | Good pressure relief with softness around the shoulders and hips |
| Back Sleepers | βββββ | Hips felt lifted and spine easily stayed neutral all night long |
| Stomach Sleepers | βββββ | Firm enough that hips stayed level |
| Combination Sleepers | βββββ | Changing positions was easy without feeling stuck |
| Couples | βββββ | Motion was moderately noticeable in our weighted ball test. |
The Luxury Firm felt comfortable and supportive in most sleep positions during our testing with the best results for back sleepers and combination sleepers.

Pressure Relief Performance
The Saatva Classic delivers good balance between comfort with the pillow top and even firm support. During testing, side sleeping was very comfortable with no noticeable pressure buildup in the shoulder and hips.

In the back position, hips were lifted and we didn’t feel any strain in the lower back. If back support is your main concern, read our full breakdown of Is the Saatva Classic good for back pain?
Sleep specialist and physical therapist tend to agree that having a mattresses that addresses pressure relief is especially important for side sleepers and for anyone suffering with back pain.

Cooling: Does the Saatva Classic Sleep Hot?
The Saatva Classic performed exceptionally well in our surface temperature test registering 75 degrees F after 30 minutes of rest in the same position. The breathable organic cotton cover and coil system that facilitates strong airflow kept the mattress surface cooler than average
High-density foam mattresses retain body heat, but a hybrid designs like the Saatva Classic allow body heat to dissipate more efficiently because the coils create space for airflow. For people who sleep hot, the Saatva Classic is a good choice and stays at a neutral temperature and is cooler than many foam mattresses.
Motion Isolation
Typically hybrid mattresses with coil systems are more buoyant and transfer motion more than all-foam mattresses. One thing that makes the Saatva Classic valuable is that the individually wrapped coils help improve motion isolation.
During our 10 lb ball drop test, movement was noticeable, but not too disruptive, which is good for a coil mattress. If you are a couple where one person is very sensitive to motion, then an all-foam mattress is a better choice. But if you want a balance between cooling performance with moderate motion isolation, the Saatva Classic will meet your needs.
Edge Support
The Saatva Classic had the strongest edge support of any mattresses we tested, so you can sleep near the edge without any difference in support. We measured only half an inch of compression while sitting on the edge of the mattress and it felt firm and stable.

For couples sharing a queen mattress, this is a big plus because you won’t feel like you are rolling off the bed and the surface will feel even and supported throughout.
Durability & Lifespan
Saatva Classic ranks very highly for durability. In general, steel coils are more durable than polyurethane based foams that are prone to soften and lose their shape over time.
Based on the materials and layered design, we would expect the Saatva Classic to outlast many all-foam or hybrid designs. It should last up to 12 years with proper care.
We highly recommend using a mattress protector from day one, so you can easily clean spills and stains and prevent accumulation of sweat, allergens and dust mites. Another maintenece tip is to deep clean your mattress twice a year to ensure peak performance and longevity. –Β (American Cleaning Institute).
Pricing & Value
Saatva is expensive when compared with boxed hybrid mattresses, but the white-glove delivery and organic, high-quality materials add value by making set up easier and increased comfort and durability.
We paid $2,006 for a Saatva Classic Luxury Firm, Queen, 11.5″ and the MSRP was listes as $2,179. If you keep your eye out for deals and promotional periods, we observed that you can save an average of $300 – $500 off the MSR.
