The Beautyrest Silver BRS900 is a 12-inch mattress that combines several thin foam comfort layers with an 8-inch pocketed-coil support system. Although retailers may classify it as either an innerspring or a hybrid, it fits the practical definition of a hybrid because it uses both foam and individually wrapped coils.

This is an entry-level Beautyrest mattress, and it feels like one. You get a lightly cushioned top, firm underlying support and enough responsiveness to change positions easily. You do not get the thick Euro top, deep contouring or premium materials found in hybrids that cost $1,500 or more.

That distinction is important. The BRS900 is not trying to compete with a luxury hotel-style mattress. Its strength is giving budget-conscious shoppers a dependable coil-and-foam construction without charging a premium price.

Mattress prices can vary dramatically between retailers. We purchased our queen BRS900 from Costco for $549, which made it one of the least expensive full-size hybrid mattresses we had tested. Even around $600, it remains a strong value because many mattresses in that range use only foam or a more basic connected-coil system.

We would be less enthusiastic if the price climbs close to $900. At that point, the BRS900 begins competing with newer hybrids that offer thicker comfort layers, longer sleep trials and more sophisticated cooling materials.

Delivery, Setup and Haul Away

Costco’s online listing includes delivery to the room of your choice, setup, packaging removal and haul away of an eligible old mattress and foundation for most members. These services can add significant value, particularly because a queen BRS900 weighs more than 80 pounds.

There are limitations. Delivery coverage depends on your location, and an old mattress that is contaminated or unsafe for delivery personnel may not qualify for haul away. Confirm the services offered to your ZIP code before ordering.

Return and Warranty Protection

What the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Feels Like

Beautyrest and Costco describe the BRS900 as medium or medium-firm. In our testing, it felt like a 5.5 out of 10, with 1 being extremely soft and 10 being extremely firm.

A randomized, double-blind trial of 313 adults with chronic nonspecific lower-back pain found that participants assigned to medium-firm mattresses reported better outcomes for pain and pain-related disability than those assigned to firm mattresses. That does not mean the BRS900 treats back pain, but it supports why a balanced medium feel may be more comfortable than an extremely firm surface for some sleepers.

The top has a soft initial touch, but the cushioning is thin. You quickly feel the stable support of the coil system underneath. The result is a balanced, traditional mattress feel: supportive without feeling hard, responsive without feeling overly bouncy and lightly cushioned without the deep hug of memory foam.

I primarily sleep on my side, and I noticed mild pressure around my shoulders and hips. I would want a thicker, plusher comfort layer for an everyday mattress. Back and combination sleepers are more likely to appreciate the even support and easy movement.

How the BRS900 Performs by Sleep Position

Mattress comfort remains subjective, and the best firmness can vary based on sleep position, body weight and personal preference. However, a systematic review of 24 controlled mattress studies found that medium-firm and self-adjusted mattresses were generally the most favorable for sleep comfort, sleep quality and spinal alignment.

Cooling, Motion Isolation and Edge Support

Cooling

The BRS900 slept temperature-neutral during our testing. Air can circulate through the coil system, and the comfort layers are too thin to create the deep, heat-trapping hug associated with some all-foam mattresses. However, the surface does not feel actively cool, and shoppers who regularly overheat may want more advanced cooling materials.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is average for a hybrid. The individually wrapped coils respond more independently than a traditional connected-coil system, which helps reduce movement across the mattress. Even so, the BRS900 does not absorb motion as effectively as a thick memory-foam mattress.

Most couples who are not highly sensitive to movement should find it acceptable. Light sleepers who wake whenever a partner changes positions may prefer a mattress with thicker foam layers and less responsiveness.

Edge Support

Edge support was one of the strongest parts of this mattress. The perimeter remained stable while we sat and lay near the edge, making it easier to use the full width of the bed. Strong edges are particularly useful for couples, people with mobility limitations and anyone who frequently sits on the side of the mattress.

What About Complaints of Sagging, Noise or Smaller Dimensions?

Customer reviews for the BRS900 include complaints about early body impressions, sagging, coil noise and dimensions that fall slightly short of the expected size. These reports should not be ignored, but they also should not be treated as proof that every BRS900 will develop the same problems.

Costco currently lists the queen mattress at 60 by 79.5 inches, which is one-half inch shorter than the commonly cited 60-by-80-inch queen size. Small manufacturing variations can also occur. Measure your mattress after it has fully expanded and contact the retailer promptly if the dimensions fall outside the stated specifications or create a problem with your frame.

We did not experience major sagging or structural failure during our testing period. Long-term durability will depend on body weight, nightly use, foundation quality and mattress care. Rotating the mattress from head to foot every few months—if permitted by the manufacturer—and using a supportive foundation may help the surface wear more evenly.

Based on the construction and our hands-on experience, we estimate a practical lifespan of approximately six to eight years for many sleepers. That is an estimate, not a guarantee. A heavier couple using the mattress every night may notice softening sooner, while occasional guest-room use may extend its useful life.
