The Beautyrest Silver BRS900 is a medium-firm hybrid mattress. It has five comfort layers, including a layer of innerspring coils, and Beautyrestâs DualCool⢠Technology, a fiber enhanced with silver intended to keep you cool. The mattress is no longer available on Beautyrestâs website, but is available at Costco for $549 for a Queen-sized mattress (50% less than the price listed on Beautyrest.com). So you may be wondering, is Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Worth Buying at Costco?

Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict
The Beautyrest Silver BRS900 is worth buying at Costco if you want a supportive hybrid mattress at a budget price. Its 900 Series pocketed coils, strong edges and responsive surface make it a particularly good fit for back and combination sleepers. The tradeoff is limited cushioning: it does not provide the plush pressure relief or premium finish of a more expensive hybrid.
- Best for: Back sleepers, combination sleepers, guest rooms and budget shoppers
- Not ideal for: Side sleepers who need deep pressure relief, people who love memory foam and shoppers seeking luxury comfort
- Our firmness rating: 5.5 out of 10, or a true medium feel

What Is the Beautyrest Silver BRS900?

The Beautyrest Silver BRS900 is a 12-inch mattress that combines several thin foam comfort layers with an 8-inch pocketed-coil support system. Although retailers may classify it as either an innerspring or a hybrid, it fits the practical definition of a hybrid because it uses both foam and individually wrapped coils.
This is an entry-level Beautyrest mattress, and it feels like one. You get a lightly cushioned top, firm underlying support and enough responsiveness to change positions easily. You do not get the thick Euro top, deep contouring or premium materials found in hybrids that cost $1,500 or more.
That distinction is important. The BRS900 is not trying to compete with a luxury hotel-style mattress. Its strength is giving budget-conscious shoppers a dependable coil-and-foam construction without charging a premium price.
Why Buying the BRS900 at Costco Can Be a Good Value
Competitive Pricing
Mattress prices can vary dramatically between retailers. We purchased our queen BRS900 from Costco for $549, which made it one of the least expensive full-size hybrid mattresses we had tested. Even around $600, it remains a strong value because many mattresses in that range use only foam or a more basic connected-coil system.
We would be less enthusiastic if the price climbs close to $900. At that point, the BRS900 begins competing with newer hybrids that offer thicker comfort layers, longer sleep trials and more sophisticated cooling materials.
Delivery, Setup and Haul Away
Costcoâs online listing includes delivery to the room of your choice, setup, packaging removal and haul away of an eligible old mattress and foundation for most members. These services can add significant value, particularly because a queen BRS900 weighs more than 80 pounds.
There are limitations. Delivery coverage depends on your location, and an old mattress that is contaminated or unsafe for delivery personnel may not qualify for haul away. Confirm the services offered to your ZIP code before ordering.
Return and Warranty Protection
Costco is known for a generous satisfaction policy, but shoppers should still read the current mattress return terms before buying. The BRS900 also comes with a 10-year limited manufacturerâs warranty.
A warranty is not the same as a guarantee that every comfort or durability complaint will qualify for replacement. Normal softening, a change in comfort preference or an indentation that does not meet the warranty threshold may not be covered. Keep your receipt, use an approved foundation and review the complete warranty terms.
Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Construction and Materials
| Layer | Material | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Cover | DualCool⢠Technology Fiber | Designed to help move heat and moisture away from the surface |
| Comfort layer | 1.25 inches of AirFeelÂŽ Foam | Adds light cushioning and airflow near the surface |
| Transition layer | 0.5 inch of Firm Comfort Foam | Helps prevent excessive sinkage |
| Comfort layer | 1 inch of Medium Comfort Foam | Balances cushioning with support |
| Lumbar layer | Gel Memory Foam Lumbar Support | Adds targeted cushioning through the center of the mattress |
| Support core | 8-inch 900 Density Beautyrest Pocketed CoilÂŽ Technology | Provides responsive support, airflow and better motion control than connected coils |
The BRS900 uses a relatively simple combination of comfort foam and pocketed coils. For a broader look at how foam, coils, cooling materials, microcoils and latex vary across the brand, read our guide to what Beautyrest mattresses are made of.
The foam used in this mattress is listed as CertiPUR-USÂŽ certified. This certification addresses foam content, emissions and durability testing; it does not mean the entire mattress is organic, chemical-free or independently certified as a finished product. You can read the CertiPUR-US certification standards for more detail.
What the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Feels Like
Beautyrest and Costco describe the BRS900 as medium or medium-firm. In our testing, it felt like a 5.5 out of 10, with 1 being extremely soft and 10 being extremely firm.
A randomized, double-blind trial of 313 adults with chronic nonspecific lower-back pain found that participants assigned to medium-firm mattresses reported better outcomes for pain and pain-related disability than those assigned to firm mattresses. That does not mean the BRS900 treats back pain, but it supports why a balanced medium feel may be more comfortable than an extremely firm surface for some sleepers.
The top has a soft initial touch, but the cushioning is thin. You quickly feel the stable support of the coil system underneath. The result is a balanced, traditional mattress feel: supportive without feeling hard, responsive without feeling overly bouncy and lightly cushioned without the deep hug of memory foam.

I primarily sleep on my side, and I noticed mild pressure around my shoulders and hips. I would want a thicker, plusher comfort layer for an everyday mattress. Back and combination sleepers are more likely to appreciate the even support and easy movement.
How the BRS900 Performs by Sleep Position
Mattress comfort remains subjective, and the best firmness can vary based on sleep position, body weight and personal preference. However, a systematic review of 24 controlled mattress studies found that medium-firm and self-adjusted mattresses were generally the most favorable for sleep comfort, sleep quality and spinal alignment.

| Sleep Position | Our Rating | What We Found |
|---|---|---|
| Back sleepers | 4/5 | Balanced support kept our hips from sinking excessively while providing light lumbar cushioning. |
| Stomach sleepers | 4/5 | Supportive for many sleepers under 230 pounds; heavier stomach sleepers may need a firmer, more reinforced model. |
| Side sleepers | 3/5 | Adequate for people who like a firmer surface, but the thin comfort layers may create pressure around the shoulders and hips. |
| Combination sleepers | 5/5 | One of the best matches because the responsive surface makes changing positions easy. |

Quick takeaway: The Beautyrest BRS900 Medium is best for combination sleepers and back sleepers. It offers good support for stomach sleepers, but the thin cushioning is not ideal for side sleepers who need more foam for pressure relief.
Cooling, Motion Isolation and Edge Support
Cooling
The BRS900 slept temperature-neutral during our testing. Air can circulate through the coil system, and the comfort layers are too thin to create the deep, heat-trapping hug associated with some all-foam mattresses. However, the surface does not feel actively cool, and shoppers who regularly overheat may want more advanced cooling materials.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is average for a hybrid. The individually wrapped coils respond more independently than a traditional connected-coil system, which helps reduce movement across the mattress. Even so, the BRS900 does not absorb motion as effectively as a thick memory-foam mattress.
Most couples who are not highly sensitive to movement should find it acceptable. Light sleepers who wake whenever a partner changes positions may prefer a mattress with thicker foam layers and less responsiveness.
Edge Support
Edge support was one of the strongest parts of this mattress. The perimeter remained stable while we sat and lay near the edge, making it easier to use the full width of the bed. Strong edges are particularly useful for couples, people with mobility limitations and anyone who frequently sits on the side of the mattress.

What About Complaints of Sagging, Noise or Smaller Dimensions?
Customer reviews for the BRS900 include complaints about early body impressions, sagging, coil noise and dimensions that fall slightly short of the expected size. These reports should not be ignored, but they also should not be treated as proof that every BRS900 will develop the same problems.
Costco currently lists the queen mattress at 60 by 79.5 inches, which is one-half inch shorter than the commonly cited 60-by-80-inch queen size. Small manufacturing variations can also occur. Measure your mattress after it has fully expanded and contact the retailer promptly if the dimensions fall outside the stated specifications or create a problem with your frame.
We did not experience major sagging or structural failure during our testing period. Long-term durability will depend on body weight, nightly use, foundation quality and mattress care. Rotating the mattress from head to foot every few monthsâif permitted by the manufacturerâand using a supportive foundation may help the surface wear more evenly.
Based on the construction and our hands-on experience, we estimate a practical lifespan of approximately six to eight years for many sleepers. That is an estimate, not a guarantee. A heavier couple using the mattress every night may notice softening sooner, while occasional guest-room use may extend its useful life.

Is the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Worth Buying at Costco?
Yesâthe Beautyrest Silver BRS900 is worth buying at Costco when the queen is priced near $549. It gives you a substantial pocketed-coil support system, stable edges and adequate comfort for less than many entry-level hybrids. Costcoâs delivery, setup and haul-away services can make the overall package even more valuable.
We would recommend it most strongly for budget-conscious back sleepers, combination sleepers, a teenagerâs room, a guest room or a vacation property. It can also work as an everyday mattress for people who prefer a supportive, traditional feel and do not need thick pressure-relieving foam.
We would skip it if you are a dedicated side sleeper with sensitive shoulders or hips, want deep memory-foam contouring, are easily disturbed by a partnerâs movement or expect a high-end luxury feel. Paying more for a thicker comfort system would likely be worthwhile in those situations.
The BRS900 earned a 7 out of 10 overall rating in our testing and a 10 out of 10 for value. It is not the best mattress we have tested, but it is one of the better low-cost hybrids we have tested. That is why our verdict is favorable: the performance matches the price, and in several areasâparticularly edge support and ease of movementâit exceeds what we normally expect from a mattress in this range.

Beautyrest Silver BRS900 FAQs
Is the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 a firm mattress?
No. Beautyrest and Costco categorize this version as medium or medium-firm. We rated it 5.5 out of 10. It feels supportive because the comfort layers are relatively thin, but it is not an extra-firm mattress. Beautyrest also sells other BRS900 firmness options, so confirm the exact model before ordering.
Is the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 good for side sleepers?
It can work for side sleepers who prefer a firmer, more traditional surface, but it would not be our first choice for most dedicated side sleepers. During testing, I noticed mild pressure around my shoulders and hips. A mattress with thicker comfort layers will generally provide more cushioning in those areas.
Is the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 good for couples?
It can be a good budget option for couples because the edges are stable and the pocketed coils control motion better than a basic connected-coil mattress. Motion isolation is still only average compared with memory foam, so highly motion-sensitive partners may want a mattress that absorbs more movement. Couples with a combined higher body weight may also benefit from a more reinforced model.
How long does a Beautyrest Silver BRS900 last?
We estimate that many sleepers can expect approximately six to eight years of useful life, depending on body weight, frequency of use, foundation support and mattress care. This is not a guaranteed lifespan. Some customer reviews describe earlier softening or indentations, while occasional use in a guest room may allow the mattress to last longer.
Does the BRS900 sleep hot?
It did not sleep noticeably hot during our testing. The pocketed-coil core allows more airflow than a solid foam support core, and the mattress does not hug the body deeply. However, the cover did not feel actively cool, so people who struggle with night sweats may prefer a mattress with more advanced cooling materials.
Is it better to buy the Beautyrest BRS900 from Costco or Amazon?
Costco can be the better overall value when its price includes in-room setup, packaging removal and haul away of an eligible old mattress. Amazon may offer faster availability or a competitive sale price. Compare the total price, delivery method, return policy and exact firmness before ordering. Product names are similar, and some Amazon listings may be for a Medium, Medium-Firm or Extra Firm BRS900.
