Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict: Puffy Lux Hybrid

The Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress is a good option to consider if you like the melting sensation of memory foam or are a side sleeper looking for pressure relief. Despite being marketed as a hybrid with coils, the classic deep memory hug is the prominent sensation.

It behaves much more like an all-foam mattress with soft, slow-moving sinking, than the lifted feeling that is typical for hybrids. So if you are considered a hybrid mattress because you want structured support, responsiveness and neutral spine alignment, this is mattress is not an ideal choice.

Overall, we liked this mattress for comfort and pressure relief, especially for side sleeping and it was priced competitively when you factor in the average manufacture offered discounts.

Hands-On Testing: Puffy Lux Hybrid

Unboxing and First Impression

Puffy Lux Hybrid arrives compressed in a box for easy delivery

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is a compressed mattress-in-a-box. One thing that stood out was the colorful, bold Puffy branded on the box.

It was easy to unbox and a nice bonus to find the two Puffy Signature Pillows compressed in the middle.

It took 24 hours for the mattress to expand and reach its full thickness. It was easy to position the mattress with the handles on the end of the bed. Their was also clear branding on the top and sides touring the benefits of the Puffy Lux.

Our initial impressions was that the cover was soft and cloud-like, but not cool to the touch. It felt like sleeping on a marshmallow and felt much more like an all-foam mattress. The hybrid coils were not too bouncy or noticeable at all.

Comfort

The distinct sensation of laying on the Puffy Lux Hybrid was melting into the mattress evenly. Pressure was absorbed rather than feeling a firm surface pushing back.

It felt plush, and enveloping, especially on pressure points like shoulders and hips. The classic memory foam sinking and deep contouring sensation was more pronounced than a typical hybrid.

Firmness

Mattress Millionaires Firmness Rating: 4.5/10

We rate the Puffy Lux Hybrid as a 4.5 out of 10. It is medium-soft, and feels softer than a true medium firmness because you sink into the top layers. The first few layers of foam don’t offer much pushback, so you drop down before the coils kick in to offer support.

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is the Puffy Lux Hybrid’s main strength and where it really stands out from other medium hybrids at this price point.

Your body sinks evenly into the top surface layer, so there is very minimal pressure buildup. For side sleepers, this is ideal because it reduces pressure on the shoulders and hips.

Supportive

The Puffy Lux was less supportive than we would have expected from a hybrid with coils. You barely feel the coil system at all. Even when we applied pressure on the sides and from the bottom of mattress, all we could feel was squishy, motion absorbent foam with no bounce at all.

This isn’t a mattress that actively supports your body or has targeted support for specific areas that need extra reinforement, like the lumbar area. In back sleeping, we sank evenly and the lower back could have used some more support.

The overall feel was like sleeping on a puffy cloud or a marshmallow than a structure hybrid.

Motion Isolation

Puffy Lux Hybrid motion isolation test with weighted ball
Motion isolation test shows minimal bounce or transfer

The foam-heavy design absorbs movement very effectively. Since the coils are well-insulated and wrapped by foam, we didn’t observe motion bouncing back in the 10 pound ball drop test.

This makes it a great option for couples who are sensitive to each other’s movements. The Puffy lux Hybrid will keep you cushioned and secure.

Edge Support

We measured 2 inches of compression when sitting on the edge, which is slightly weaker than average hybrids, but makes sense since this is a softer hybrid with more foam.

Cooling

The Puffy Lux Hybrid stayed temperate-neutral throughout the night. It was not actively cooling, but we were impressed that given the heavier amount of foam, it didn’t retain heat as much as other memory foam mattresses.

Also when placing my hand on the mattress surface, you could feel that the foam was very cool to the touch initially.

Sleep Positions

The Puffy Lux Hybrid performed best for side sleeping. Its softness is not ideal for stomach sleepers or heavier sleepers.

Sleep Position Rating Expert Notes
Side Sleepers β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… Excellent pressure relief and deep contouring around the shoulders and hips.
Back Sleepers β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜† Comfortable overall, but the hips sink too much for ideal spinal alignment.
Stomach Sleepers β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜† Too soft for most stomach sleepers and not supportive enough through the midsection.
Combo Sleepers β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜† Good comfort, but the slow response makes changing positions less easy.
Heavy Sleepers β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜† Likely too soft for heavier bodies who need more lift, support, and durability.

Construction

The Puffy Lux Hybrid includes 8 individual layers dominated by foam, but also coils. We measured a total thickness of 11.5 inches, with the top foam layer taking up 3 of those inches.

Measuring Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress height
Puffy Lux Hybrid measures approximately 11.5 inches thick

Here is a breakdown of each layer:

Layer Material Purpose What You’ll Notice
Cover Cool Touch Quilted Cloud Cover Adds a cooler, more refreshing surface feel The cover feels soft and plush, though the cooling effect is more subtle than icy-cold
Layer 1 0.5″ Climate Fiber Layer Promotes airflow near the surface Helps the mattress feel less stuffy and a bit more breathable
Layer 2 0.5″ Gel-Infused Cooling Cloudβ„’ Foam Helps disperse heat Adds some temperature regulation, though the bed still feels more plush than cool-to-the-touch
Layer 3 2″ Plush Dual Cloud Foam Creates body contouring and softness This is where you start to feel that deep, cushioned sink-in comfort
Layer 4 2″ Cloud Comfort Pressure Relief Foam Relieves pressure at the shoulders and hips Helps soften impact points, especially for side sleepers
Layer 5 6″ Contour Adapt Coils Adds support, absorbs motion, and improves stability You get the benefit of coils without really feeling them through the thick foam layers
Layer 6 1″ Firm Core Support Foam Reinforces the base and adds stability Gives the mattress a more stable foundation underneath the softer comfort layers
Base Grip Base Cover Keeps the mattress from shifting on the foundation Helps the mattress stay in place instead of sliding around

Pricing & Value

We observed that Puffy uses very high MSRP’s and then builds in deep automatic discounts of about 50%. Using the MSRP price, the Puffy lux Hybrid doesn’t compete well with true luxury, organic mattresses like the Saatva Classic or Avocado, but it you evaluate at the price actually paid, it is in like with other premium hybrids.

Puffy Lux Hybrid branding and included materials
Puffy branding and included extras

The included “freebies” were a nice touch, but not a strong reason to buy. We received two memory foam pillows, two sleep masks and a branded squishy/fidget. Puffy markets these as a value of $400, but it realistically feels like a value of $150 – $200.

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress Comparisons

Puffy Lux Hybrid vs Traditional Hybrid Mattresses

The biggest distinction between the Puffy Lux Hybrid and most traditional hybrid mattresses is how it feels in real-world use. While hybrids are typically designed to balance foam comfort with coil responsiveness, the Puffy Lux Hybrid leans heavily toward the foam side.

In practice, this means you get a deep, slow-moving sink rather than the lifted, supportive feel many shoppers expect from a hybrid.

Traditional hybrids tend to provide stronger lumbar support, better edge reinforcement, and more bounce, which helps with repositioning and combination sleeping. The Puffy Lux Hybrid, on the other hand, prioritizes pressure relief and motion isolation over structure and responsiveness.

If you are specifically shopping for a hybrid because you want support and bounce, this mattress may not meet those expectations. However, if you want the pressure relief of memory foam with just a bit of added coil stability underneath, it can still be a good fit.

Puffy Lux Hybrid vs All-Foam Mattresses

Compared to all-foam mattresses, the Puffy Lux Hybrid feels very similar in terms of comfort and sinkage. The deep contouring and slow response closely resemble a classic memory foam bed.

The main difference is the presence of coils, which add a slight improvement in airflow, durability, and overall structure.

However, it is important to note that during testing, the coils were not very noticeable. The foam layers dominate the experience, so if you are expecting a significantly different feel from an all-foam mattress, you may not notice much of a change.

The benefit here is that you get excellent motion isolation and pressure relief, but you sacrifice some of the responsiveness and support that a true hybrid would typically provide.

Puffy Lux Hybrid vs Firmer Luxury Hybrids

When compared to firmer, more structured luxury hybrids, the Puffy Lux Hybrid falls short in support and overall spinal alignment. Premium hybrids often include zoned support systems, stronger coil units, and firmer comfort layers that help keep the body elevated and aligned.

The Puffy Lux Hybrid does not offer that same level of targeted support. Instead, it delivers a softer, more cloud-like feel that allows the body to sink evenly into the surface.

This makes it more comfortable for side sleepers but less ideal for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, or anyone who needs additional lift in the midsection.

Puffy Lux Hybrid vs Budget Memory Foam Mattresses

Compared to lower-cost memory foam mattresses, the Puffy Lux Hybrid offers better build quality, improved motion isolation, and slightly better temperature regulation. The addition of coils also helps with durability and long-term structure.

That said, the overall feel is still very similar to a plush memory foam mattress. If you are considering upgrading from a basic foam bed, the Puffy Lux Hybrid provides a more refined and comfortable experience, but the core sensation of deep sink and contouring remains consistent.

Who Should Choose the Puffy Lux Hybrid Over Competitors?

  • Choose the Puffy Lux Hybrid if you want deep pressure relief and a soft, hugging feel
  • Choose a traditional hybrid if you want bounce, support, and easier movement
  • Choose a firmer luxury hybrid if you need better spinal alignment and durability
  • Choose a basic memory foam mattress if you are on a tighter budget and want a similar feel

Final Verdict: Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is a comfort-first mattress that excels in pressure relief, motion isolation, and plush, contouring support. During testing, it consistently delivered a soft, enveloping feel that makes it especially appealing for side sleepers and anyone who prefers a deep memory foam β€œhug.”

However, despite being labeled as a hybrid, it does not deliver the balanced support and responsiveness that many shoppers expect from that category. The coil system is present, but it plays a secondary role to the foam layers, resulting in a mattress that feels much closer to an all-foam design. This means you get excellent cushioning, but less structure, bounce, and spinal support.

Where the Puffy Lux Hybrid truly stands out is in its ability to relieve pressure and isolate motion. Couples will appreciate how well it absorbs movement, and side sleepers will benefit from the way it cushions shoulders and hips. On the other hand, back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and heavier individuals may find it too soft and lacking in the support needed for proper alignment.

In terms of value, the mattress is most competitive when purchased at its typical discounted price. While the listed retail price may seem high, the frequent promotions bring it in line with other premium mattresses in its category. The included accessories are a nice bonus, but they should not be the primary reason to choose this mattress.

Bottom Line: The Puffy Lux Hybrid is an excellent choice if you want a soft, pressure-relieving mattress with strong motion isolation and a deep contouring feel.

However, if you are specifically looking for a true hybrid with noticeable support, bounce, and spinal alignment, you may want to consider firmer or more traditional hybrid options.

Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress – Frequently Asked Questions

What type of mattress is the Puffy Lux Hybrid?

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is a multi-layer hybrid mattress that combines memory foam comfort layers with a coil support system underneath. However, unlike traditional hybrids that feel responsive and lifted, this mattress behaves much more like an all-foam bed.

The top layers dominate the feel, creating a deep, slow-moving β€œhug” sensation that contours closely to your body. The coils are present for structural support, but they are not very noticeable in everyday use, which makes the mattress feel softer and more cushioned than most hybrids on the market.

Who is the Puffy Lux Hybrid best for?

This mattress is best suited for side sleepers and anyone who prefers a plush, contouring sleep surface. It performs especially well for people who experience pressure buildup in their shoulders and hips, as the foam layers absorb impact and distribute weight evenly.

It is also a strong choice for couples due to its excellent motion isolation. If you enjoy the sensation of sinking into your mattress rather than sleeping on top of it, the Puffy Lux Hybrid is a great match.

Is the Puffy Lux Hybrid good for back sleepers?

The Puffy Lux Hybrid can work for some back sleepers, but it is not ideal for everyone. Because of its softer feel, the hips tend to sink deeper than the upper body, which can lead to poor spinal alignment over time.

While it may feel comfortable initially, those who need strong lumbar support or a more structured sleeping surface may find it lacking in proper support.

Is the Puffy Lux Hybrid good for stomach sleepers?

No, this mattress is generally not recommended for stomach sleepers. The soft foam layers allow the midsection to sink too far into the mattress, which can strain the lower back and lead to discomfort.

Stomach sleepers typically require a firmer, flatter surface to keep their spine aligned, which this mattress does not provide.

How firm is the Puffy Lux Hybrid?

The Puffy Lux Hybrid is considered medium-soft, typically rating around 4.5 to 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It feels softer than a true medium mattress because the top foam layers compress easily before the support layers engage.

This creates a noticeable sink-in sensation that gives it a plush, cushioned feel.

Does the Puffy Lux Hybrid provide good pressure relief?

Yes, pressure relief is one of the standout features of this mattress. The foam layers contour closely to the body and reduce pressure buildup in key areas like the shoulders and hips.

This makes it especially beneficial for side sleepers and individuals with joint pain or sensitivity. The mattress absorbs pressure rather than pushing back against the body.

Does the Puffy Lux Hybrid sleep hot?

The mattress is temperature neutral rather than actively cooling. While it includes gel-infused foam and airflow-promoting layers, it does not deliver a cool-to-the-touch sensation.

However, compared to traditional memory foam mattresses, it performs better at preventing heat buildup, making it comfortable for most sleepers.

How is motion isolation on this mattress?

Motion isolation is excellent. The foam-heavy construction absorbs movement effectively, preventing motion from transferring across the bed.

This makes it an ideal option for couples, especially if one partner is a light sleeper or frequently changes positions during the night.

Does the Puffy Lux Hybrid have good edge support?

Edge support is moderate but not exceptional. While you can sit or lie near the edges, they do compress more than firmer hybrid mattresses.

This is expected given the softer foam construction. If strong edge support is a priority, this mattress may not be the best choice.

Is the mattress responsive or easy to move on?

The Puffy Lux Hybrid has low responsiveness. The foam layers are slow-moving, which means you may feel slightly β€œstuck” when changing positions.

This can make it less suitable for combination sleepers who move frequently during the night.

How thick is the Puffy Lux Hybrid?

The mattress measures approximately 11.5 inches in total height. It includes multiple foam layers on top, followed by a coil system and a supportive base layer underneath.

Does the mattress have an odor after unboxing?

Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses, the Puffy Lux Hybrid may have a mild off-gassing smell when first unboxed. This is normal and typically dissipates within 24 to 48 hours in a well-ventilated room.

How long does it take to fully expand?

The mattress usually takes about 24 hours to fully expand and reach its intended shape and firmness. While you can sleep on it sooner, it is recommended to allow a full day for optimal performance.

Is the Puffy Lux Hybrid good for heavier sleepers?

Heavier sleepers may find this mattress too soft. It may not provide enough support or durability for individuals who require more lift and reinforcement. Firmer mattresses are typically better suited for higher body weights.

Is the Puffy Lux Hybrid worth the price?

The value of the Puffy Lux Hybrid depends largely on the price you pay. It is often heavily discounted, which makes it competitive with other premium hybrid mattresses.

At full retail price, however, it may not offer the same level of value compared to higher-end alternatives with stronger support systems.

Does it feel like a traditional hybrid mattress?

No, it does not feel like a typical hybrid. Traditional hybrids offer a balance of bounce and support from coils, but the Puffy Lux Hybrid feels dominated by foam.

This results in a softer, more contouring experience with minimal bounce.

Is it good for couples?

Yes, it is a strong option for couples. Its excellent motion isolation reduces sleep disturbances, and the plush comfort can accommodate different sleeping preferences.

However, couples who prioritize bounce or edge support may want to consider alternatives.
