How We Tested the Casper Dream and DreamCloud Premier

At Mattress Millionaires, we evaluate every mattress through hands-on testing in our home sleep lab. For this comparison we:

  • Slept on each mattress for at least 3 nights
  • Slept on each mattress in the side, back, and stomach sleeping positions
  • Observed cooling performance using a surface temperature test after 30 minutes of rest
  • Compared motion transfer using a 10-lb drop test
  • Assessed edge support by sitting and lying near the perimeter

Construction and Materials Comparison

Casper Dream = cooling top + zoned lumbar support + lifted pocketed coil system

The Casper Dream is 11.5 inches thick with layers that include a cooling cover that feels like knit jersey, memory foam comfort and support layers , and individually wrapped coils for responsive support. The standout design feature is the “Zoned Support” layer that is firmer through the center of the mattress to help keep the spine neutral by lifting the hips and lower back. This makes the mattress feel structured and supportive instead of melty and contouring.

DreamCloud Premier = cashmere blend quilted topper + foam + individually wrapped coils

The DreamCloud Premier has greater thickness at 13 inches that include a pillow top, multiple memory foam layers for comfort and support, and a coil system for support and durability. The most notable design element is the plush pillow top with a complex foam profile for comfort and pressure relief. The pillow-top and extra foam are what makes the DreamCloud feel more luxurious, softer and more plush.

My Hot Take: the Casper Dream feels like a modern hybrid build for support and movement, while the DreamCloud feels like a traditional, luxury hybrid designed for pressure relief and soft comfort.

Firmness and Feel

Even though they both have hybrid designs that combine foam layers on top of coils, they provide different sleep experiences.

We ranked the Casper Dream as closer to a medium-firm mattress of 6/10 during our testing. It felt slightly floaty, buoyant and was notably easy to change positions on. Instead of deep contouring memory foam, you stay on top of the mattress with thin cushioning over strong support. This is a feeling that will serve back sleepers, stomach sleepers and combination sleepers very well.

The DreamCloud Premier is marketed as medium-firm, but in our testing, it felt softer than many other medium-firm hybrids we have tested and we would say it is medium-plush. The initial sensation is plushness, followed by a supportive pushback from the coil system. It doesn’t hug you like an all-foam mattress, but it contours more than the Casper Dream.

Overall, Casper Dream is a more balanced and buoyant hybrid while the DreamCloud Premier is a plusher, thicker sleep surface.

Pressure Relief

This is one area where you can clearly see the difference between the two mattresses. The DreamCloud Premier offers better pressure relief with the pillow-top and thicker foam profile. It felt especially comfortable in the side sleep position and compressed easily under the shoulders and hips, but did not sink so much that you feel stuck.

The DreamCloud Premier compresses more easily at the surface, which helps relieve pressure at the shoulders and hips.

It is common for side sleepers to need a softer surface to relieve pressure, as side sleeping puts more pressure on the shoulders and hips.Β

The Casper Dream had decent pressure relief, but we noticed some stiffness in the shoulders in the morning after spending all night on my side. It’s still soft and comfortable, just not overly plush.

The Casper Dream provides light cushioning and support, but it does not contour as deeply as softer hybrids.

Choose the DreamCloud Premier if pressure relief is your top priority, especially if you are a side sleeper.

Support and Spinal Alignment

The Casper Dream is the clear winner for support and spinal alignment. Hips stayed lifted in the back position and stayed level in the stomach position.

The DreamCloud Premier still offers solid back support, but it feels softer and less lifted than the Casper Dream.

The Zoned Support system delivers on what Casper promises: provides firmer reinforcement through the center of the mattress so your hips and lower back stay lifted.

Neutral spinal alignment is important to sleep health and will reduce the possibility of waking up with pain. Back sleeping is the best sleep position to reduce stain in the spine and the Casper Dream performed very well in this sleep position.

The DreamCloud Premier also performed well for support, especially considering how plush it is. The coil layer keeps the hips from dipping too far, even in the back sleeping position. However, it is still softer with not as strong of lift and reinforcement as the Casper.

Cooling Performance

The Casper Dream wins for cooling over the DreamCloud Premier with a 9/10 performance score during our testing. The hybrid design facilitates strong airflow through the coils and the cooling cover helps maintain a neutral temperature through the night.

The DreamCloud Premier sleeps more neutral-cool than a true cool. It showed a lower surface temperature than all-foam mattresses we have tested, but the thicker memory foam layers retain more heat than the Casper Dream. This doesn’t mean it sleeps hot, just that it is less ideal for hot sleepers than the Casper Dream, which is a better pick if you want a mattress that is cooler to the touch.

Motion Isolation

The DreamCloud Premier is the winner for motion isolation, which can be a priority for some couples who are sensitive to motion disturbances.

The DreamCloud Premier absorbed motion well, helping reduce movement transfer across the surface.

Casper Dream performed better than most bouncy hybrids in our 10 pound ball drop test, but the DreamCloud Premier was even better. The extra foam also absorbs movement before it bounces back off the coils.

The Casper Dream handled motion transfer better than expected for a responsive hybrid mattress.

Edge Support

Neither mattress has great edge support during testing, but the DreamCloud is slightly better.

We measured 5 inches of compression while sitting on the edge of the Casper Dream, which is a weak result for a hybrid. The DreamCloud Premier also had deeper compression than expected at about 4.5 inches

Importantly, both mattresses were more stable while lying near the edge instead of sitting, so the surface was strong enough to sleep on without dipping.

Durability and Lifespan

Based on the materials and hybrid construction, both mattresses should last in the 7 to 10 year range.

One callout is that the Casper Dream’s foam is thinner, which may limit the lifespan much beyond 7 years. Less dense foam is more prone to dips and compression at pressure points after years of consistent use.

The real advantage for DreamCloud is that they offer a Forever Warranty, which gives you more protection and confidence for a long lifespan.

Pricing and Value

DreamCloud’s high-quality and luxurious fell make is very compelling for the value it offers, making it the winner on price and value

The Casper Dream price point is fair at around $1,400 – $1,500 for a queen with discount codes, but it is above average for boxed hybrids.

Brand / Model MSRP / Listed Price (Queen) Frequent Sale Price Range (Observed) Typical Promo Pattern What’s Included (Value Notes)
Casper Dream ~$1,495 ~$1,100 – $1,300 Regular holiday and sitewide discount events, usually a few hundred dollars off MSRP. Great option for shoppers who want a cooler, more responsive hybrid with zoned support and easier movement. Better for performance than plush luxury value.
DreamCloud Premier ~$1,832 ~$999 – $1,199 Typically marketed with aggressive 40%–50% discounts almost year-round. Outstanding value for a plush 13″ hybrid with Euro-top comfort, strong motion isolation, 365-night trial, and Forever Warranty.

Casper Dream vs DreamCloud Premier FAQs

Which mattress is better for side sleepers?

Is Casper Dream or DreamCloud Premier better for back pain?

It depends on the type of back pain and the cause. The Casper Dream is better for people who want stronger lumbar support and less sinkage. Additionally, medium firm mattresses, like the Casper Dream, may promote comfort and spinal alignment best.

It also is better for keeping the spine neutral and making you feel lifted. The DreamCloud Premier may feel more comfortable if a softer mattress helps your back pain.
