Firmness and Feel Comparison

The Layla Hybrid provides two sides with more noticeable firmness differences. The soft side feels plush and pressure relieving. The firm side feels substantially more supportive and stable. We rated the sides approximately 4/10 and 7/10 on the mattress firmness scale.

The DLX Premier Soft/Medium split felt much closer together than expected. We rated the Soft insert 3/10 and the Medium insert 4/10.  The Soft side allows slightly deeper sinkage, while the Medium side gives more pushback. The difference is noticeable, but subtle.

If you want two people to sleep comfortably at different firmness levels simultaneously, DLX wins. If you one mattress surface that can change significantly from soft to firm, choose Layla Hybrid.

Construction and Materials

Both mattresses have a hybrid construction composed of foam comfort layers on top of pocketed coil systems for support.

Pressure Relief

Both mattresses perform extremely well for pressure relief.

The Layla Hybrid soft side delivers excellent pressure relief in the shoulders and hips, especially for lightweight side sleepers. The copper-infused memory foam contours deeply around shoulders and hips.

The DLX Premier Soft side also performed exceptionally well for side sleeping. The combination of plush foam and responsive coils relieved pressure without creating a deep sinking sensation.

Layla feels more like traditional memory foam, while DLX feels more like a responsive hybrid. Either mattress would be comfortable for side sleepers who need pressure relief.

Cooling: Which Sleeps Cooler?

Both mattresses tested temperature neutral in our surface temperature test. Their hybrid designs promote airflow, which can help reduce heat build up in the foam layers, but neither mattress is actively cooling.

The Layla Hybrid also has the benefit of copper-infused memory foam, which theoretically helps pull heat away from the body.

The DLX Premier uses a breathable quilted cover  and we noticed very little heat buildup. The Medium side felt slightly cooler because it kept the body more elevated above the foam layers that can trap heat as they hug the body.

The difference is small, but the DLX felt slightly more breathable overall.

Edge Support

Both mattresses have narrower, double rows of coils to help strengthen the edges and minimize sagging from the thick foam. Strong edges can matter for couples who want to use the full surface of the mattress without rolling or sinking while lying on the edge.

We found the edge support to be slightly stronger on the Layla Hybrid. The DLX Premier Hybrid still performed well considering its softer comfort layers, but there is more compression around the perimeter. During testing, the edges compressed approximately 2.5 inches.

Based on our testing and analysis of the mattress construction and materials, we expect both mattresses should provide above-average durability.

The Layla Hybrid was slightly less and we paid $1,499 for a queen at the time of testing. We feel this is a fair price and good value for the flippable design and premium materials, which is worth it if you will enjoy those features and if they improve your sleep quality.

Despite the slightly higher price, DLX delivers greater value to couples who want to experience different firmness options simultaneously. They also offer a 120-night trial and a lifetime limited warranty.
