Unboxing & First Impressions

Unboxing the DreamCloud Premier mattress was the same experience has the Nectar Premier, since they are owned by the same parent company.

Once we opened the cardboard box and unwrapped the plastic by unrolling the mattress, it quickly expanded with a sizzle of air. There was hardly any smell or off-gassing.

My first impression of the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid was the weak edge support when I first sat down on the edge. There was significant sinking on he edge with my full body weight. However, when I laid down in the middle of the mattress, I felt supported and there wasn’t much sinkage at all.

Overall, my initial impression was that it was very comfortable and a good balance of softness and support. It took at least three days for the mattress to fully expand and reach the total 13″ thickness.

Firmness and Feel

After sleeping on the DreamCloud Premier for two weeks, we would rate it a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (1 = extremely firm and 10 = extremely soft. It is marketed as medium-firm, but we felt it was softer than other medium hybrid mattresses we have tested. It still is considered medium, but a plusher medium.

Similar to other hybrid designs, DreamCloud Premier give you an initial feel of softness without sinking too deep. It’s this balance that gives it a luxury, substantial feel.

Pressure Relief

DreamCloud Premier performed exceptionally well for pressure relief. The combination of two memory foam layers topped with a plush cotton cover were excellent for supporting the shoulders, hips and lower back and relieving pressure.

Side sleepers will benefit the most from this design. The top layers compress enough to relieve pressure and the coils are sturdy enough to keep spinal alignment. We also experienced good pressure relief in the back sleep position, which other mattresses this soft did not deliver. Our hips stayed lifted and our lower back did not feel strained.

Motion Transfer

We tested motion isolation by laying in the bed together (a 125 lb woman and a 170 lb man) and changed sleep position, got in and out of bed while one of us laid down and tried some minor tossing and turning. These movements were only mildly noticeable towards the center of the mattress and the motion isolation was significantly better than other hybrid mattresses we have tested.

This can be attributed to the high-quality foam that absorbs motion before it travels to the more bouncy coil system. This is a great mattress for couples who want a peaceful night’s sleep.

Edge Support

Sitting edge compression is deeper than expected. We observed significant sinkage when sitting on the edge of the mattresses of 4.5 inches.

However, lying edge support is strong and stable, which matters more for actual sleep. Hybrid mattress typically have strong edge support since the coils don’t compress as deeply as foam. We measured that the mattress only sank 2 inches at the hips and was barely noticeable at the shoulders.
