The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge and Beautyrest Silver BRS900 are two of the most compelling hybrid mattresses we have tested from Costco. Both mattresses combine foam cushioning with pocketed coils, while providing strong support. If you are looking for a queen-size under $1,000, both fall into that price category and cost less than many popular online, compressed mattress-in-a-box hybrids. However, they are designed for different types of sleepers.

Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict: Kirkland Lakeridge vs Beautyrest Silver

Our pick: Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Pillow Top

The Kirkland Lakeridge wins overall because it feels more substantial, provides deeper cushioning and offers better motion isolation. Its pillow top and TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam create a more refined surface without losing the lifted support of a traditional innerspring mattress.

However, the Beautyrest Silver wins for pure value. At the $549 price we paid, it costs $450 less and still delivers excellent edge support, easy movement and reliable support for back and combination sleepers.

The Kirkland Lakeridge Pillow Top is made by Stearns & Foster and has a substantial total height of 14.5 inches, which gives it a more premium feel. Additionally it has a thick, cushioned surface, a sturdy IntelliCoil® support system and a reinforced perimeter. We paid $999 for a queen during our testing period.

The 12-inch Beautyrest Silver BRS900 Medium has less design features and materials and considerably less expensive. We paid $549 for a queen at Costco. Its thinner comfort system does not feel luxurious, but its responsive 900 Series Pocketed Coil® System, excellent edges and balanced medium feel make it one of the better budget hybrids we have tested.

The bottom line:

  • Choose the Lakeridge if you want the more comfortable, substantial and premium-feeling mattress.
  • Choose the BRS900 if keeping the price as low as possible is your priority and you still want dependable coil support.

Firmness and Feel Comparison

The Lakeridge Pillow Top is the more cushioned mattress, but it is not as soft as its name may suggest. We rate it approximately 6 to 7 out of 10, or medium-firm. The thick quilted top allows some surface compression, but the IntelliCoil® system quickly creates a sturdy, lifted sensation. It feels like a substantial luxury hotel mattress rather than a body-hugging foam bed.

The Lakeridge’s thick quilted pillow top provides noticeably more surface cushioning before the sturdy coil support takes over.

That balanced medium-firm range is worth noting because research on mattress stiffness and spinal alignment found meaningful differences in spinal curvature, disc loading and contact pressure across soft, medium and hard surfaces. In that small study of back sleepers, the researchers concluded that the medium surface appeared most suitable.

We rated the BRS900 5.5 out of 10. Although that number is slightly softer, the mattress does not feel plusher. Its quilt and foam layers are thinner, so the supportive coil system comes through quickly. The result is a true medium surface with light cushioning, minimal sinkage and a simpler traditional feel.

The BRS900’s quilted surface provides light initial cushioning, but its thinner comfort layers allow the supportive coil system to come through quickly.

The difference is refinement. The Lakeridge provides more cushioning between your body and the support core. The BRS900 gives you enough padding to avoid feeling like you are lying directly on springs, but it does not have the same substantial or premium sensation.

Construction and Materials

The Lakeridge is a 14.5-inch pillow-top mattress made by Stearns & Foster for Costco. Its construction includes a TENCEL™ Lyocell cover, TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam, IntelliCoil® support, PrecisionEdge™ reinforcement and an AirVent system along the sides. These are recognizable Stearns & Foster materials, although the Lakeridge is a Costco-exclusive design and not a renamed retail collection.

The BRS900 is a 12-inch Beautyrest with a soft knit quilted cover, gel-infused AirCool® foam, firm transition foam, an 8- to 9-inch 900 Series Pocketed Coil® System, foam edge encasement and stabilizing base foam. Its construction is less elaborate, but the individually wrapped coils are a meaningful feature at this price.

Beautyrest Silver mattress label and 12-inch BRS900 profile
The 12-inch Beautyrest Silver BRS900 has a simpler, lower-profile construction than the 14.5-inch Kirkland Lakeridge Pillow Top.

Both mattresses isolate movement better than a basic connected-coil bed. The Lakeridge’s thicker comfort system absorbs more movement before it reaches the springs, giving it the advantage for couples. The BRS900 remains responsive and controls motion adequately, but highly sensitive partners may notice more movement.

Pressure Relief

The Kirkland Lakeridge is the clear winner for pressure relief. Its pillow top and additional foam provide more space for the shoulders and hips to settle into the surface. It still feels supportive rather than deeply contouring, but it distributes pressure more comfortably than the thinner Beautyrest.

During side-sleeping tests on the BRS900, we noticed mild pressure around the shoulders and hips. The quilted surface creates some initial softness, but the shallow comfort layers do not allow much contouring. Side sleepers who like firm support may be comfortable, but lightweight sleepers and anyone with sensitive joints will likely want more cushioning.

Side sleeper testing pressure relief on the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 mattress
The BRS900 kept us supported while side sleeping, but its shallow comfort layers created more pressure around the shoulders and hips than the Lakeridge.

Neither mattress is an ultra-plush side-sleeper model. The Lakeridge is simply the more forgiving of the two. Dedicated side sleepers seeking deep relief should compare both with a softer hybrid or a foam mattress with a thicker comfort system.

A biomechanical review of mattress design identifies body-pressure distribution, spinal alignment, body build and sleeping posture as important variables when evaluating a sleep surface. That helps explain why the more cushioned Lakeridge may work better for one sleeper while the shallower BRS900 feels perfectly comfortable to another.

Cooling: Which Sleeps Cooler?

Cooling is essentially a tie. Neither mattress slept noticeably hot during our testing, but neither has an actively cold surface. Temperature matters beyond simple comfort. A 2023 study of nighttime temperature and sleep involving older adults found that sleep efficiency declined as bedroom temperature increased from 77°F to 86°F, although the ideal temperature varied by individual.

The Lakeridge uses a moisture-managing TENCEL™ Lyocell cover, side vents and open space within the coil core. Those features encourage breathability, although the thick pillow top and memory foam can retain some warmth close to the body.

The BRS900 uses thinner comfort layers, AirCool® foam and a pocketed-coil core. It does not hug the body deeply, which leaves more of the sleeper exposed to room air. Its surface did not feel especially cool, but the shallower foam package limits the amount of heat-trapping material above the coils.

Average sleepers should find either mattress temperature-neutral. Very hot sleepers or people dealing with frequent night sweats should consider a mattress with more advanced heat-transfer materials or active airflow.

Edge Support

The Beautyrest Silver wins by a narrow margin. Edge support was one of its strongest test results. The foam-encased perimeter remained stable while we sat along the side, and it allowed us to use nearly the entire surface without feeling as if we might roll off.

The Lakeridge also has strong edge support through its PrecisionEdge™ system. It feels substantial when lying near the perimeter and offers good stability getting in and out of bed. However, the thicker pillow top compresses more visibly while seated than the flatter BRS900 surface.

Tester seated on the Kirkland Lakeridge during edge support testing
The Lakeridge’s reinforced perimeter felt stable, although its thick pillow top compressed more while seated than the flatter BRS900 surface.

Both are good choices for couples who need maximum usable space. The BRS900 also deserves extra credit because this level of edge stability is unusual at its price.

Durability and Lifespan

The Lakeridge has the stronger overall build, but the BRS900 offers impressive durability for the money. The Lakeridge’s heavy construction, IntelliCoil® system and reinforced perimeter give it the more substantial foundation. A reasonable expectation is approximately seven to 10 years, depending on body weight, use, foundation support and care.

We estimate that the BRS900 can provide approximately six to eight years of useful life with proper support. Its pocketed coils should hold up better than the weak foam cores found in some inexpensive mattresses, although its more basic comfort materials may soften sooner than those in a premium model.

Pillow tops also come with a tradeoff: thick surface materials can develop body impressions before the coil system fails. Some Lakeridge owners report impressions or sagging after extended use. Rotating either mattress periodically, using a compatible foundation and protecting it from moisture can help promote more even wear.

Pricing and Value

We paid $999 for the queen Lakeridge Pillow Top and $549 for the queen Beautyrest Silver BRS900. That $450 difference is large enough to change the decision.

The Lakeridge justifies part of its premium with a taller profile, a thicker comfort system, better pressure relief, stronger motion isolation and a more refined overall finish. Compared with Stearns & Foster retail mattresses that can cost thousands, it is still a strong value.

The BRS900 is the better value in absolute terms. It provides pocketed coils, excellent edges and reliable support for less than many all-foam mattresses. At approximately $500 to $550, it is an easy recommendation for a guest room, teenager, first apartment or budget-conscious back sleeper.

For a higher-end comparison, see how the Lakeridge vs Saatva Classic performed in cooling, pressure relief, edge support and overall value.

Mattress Millionaires Value Insight: If you can comfortably afford the additional $450 and this will be your primary mattress, the Lakeridge provides a meaningful comfort upgrade. If spending that extra money creates a strain—or the mattress will receive occasional use—the BRS900 is the smarter purchase.

Best Sleep Positions

Side sleepers ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Lakeridge for deeper cushioning

Back sleeper testing support on the Beautyrest Silver BRS900 mattress
The Beautyrest Silver BRS900’s flatter, responsive surface worked especially well for back sleeping and changing positions.

The Lakeridge is the more versatile option for side and back sleeping because it provides more cushioning without sacrificing support. The BRS900 is better for combination sleepers who frequently reposition and stomach sleepers who prefer a flatter, less compressible surface.

Final Verdict: Kirkland Lakeridge vs Beautyrest Silver

Our overall winner is the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Pillow Top. It feels more comfortable, substantial and refined. Its thicker pillow top provides better pressure relief, its comfort layers absorb more motion and its strong coil system creates a supportive surface for back sleepers and many couples.

The Beautyrest Silver BRS900 remains the value winner. It costs $450 less based on what we paid and performs exceptionally well for its price. Its edges are stronger, it is easier to move around on and it offers adequate comfort with reliable support. We would choose it for a guest room, teenager, vacation home or any shopper who wants the lowest-cost dependable hybrid.

For an everyday primary mattress, the Lakeridge is worth the upgrade if you can afford it. For maximum savings, the BRS900 is one of the safest budget mattress purchases we have tested.

Kirkland Lakeridge vs Beautyrest Silver FAQs

Is the Kirkland Lakeridge better than the Beautyrest Silver BRS900?

Overall, yes. The Lakeridge has a thicker comfort system, better pressure relief, stronger motion isolation and a more premium feel. The BRS900 is better for shoppers who prioritize price, edge support and ease of movement.

Which mattress is better for side sleepers?

The Lakeridge Pillow Top is better for most side sleepers because it cushions the shoulders and hips more effectively. Neither is especially soft, so lightweight side sleepers with sensitive pressure points may want a plusher mattress.

Which mattress is better for back sleepers?

Both performed well for back sleeping. We prefer the Lakeridge because it combines sturdy underlying support with a more comfortable pillow-top surface. The BRS900 is a strong budget alternative for back sleepers who do not need much cushioning.

Which mattress is better for couples?

The Lakeridge is the better overall choice for couples because its thicker comfort layers absorb more movement. The BRS900 has stronger edges, but its motion isolation is only average for a hybrid.

Does the Lakeridge feel twice as good as the Beautyrest Silver?

No mattress comfort improvement can be measured directly against price. The Lakeridge feels noticeably more substantial and cushioned, but the BRS900 still provides dependable support at roughly half the price. Whether the upgrade is worth it depends on whether this is a primary bed and how much you value pressure relief and refinement.

Which mattress will last longer?

The Lakeridge has the stronger overall construction and should have a slight durability advantage. We estimate approximately seven to 10 years for the Lakeridge and six to eight years for the BRS900, although body weight, frequency of use, foundation support and care will affect either mattress.

Which mattress sleeps cooler?

Cooling is a tie. The Lakeridge has a breathable TENCEL™ cover and side vents, while the BRS900 uses fewer thick foam layers and allows airflow through its coil core. Neither has an actively cooled surface.

Is the Beautyrest Silver worth buying instead of the Lakeridge?

Yes, if price is the deciding factor. At the $549 price we paid, the BRS900 offers exceptional value. Choose the Lakeridge if you are willing to spend more for better cushioning, motion control and a more premium everyday sleep experience.
