Unboxing & First Impressions

The Puffy topper arrived in a compact box that was easy to transport from our doorstep to the bedroom. Once we unboxed and unrolled, it quickly expanded and looked great on top of our Bob-Opedic hybrid mattress.

Expansion Time: Fast.

Puffy recommends 24 – 48 hours for the topper to expand to its maximum fullness, but we noticed that compared to other foam toppers, it seemed full and ready to use right away. The foam is responsive to pressure, but also bounces back quickly.

Initial Odor: Very Mild.

A testament to the high quality materials used without harsh chemicals.

Cover Quality: Excellent.

The cover was very soft, well-made and designed to be breathable (preventing heat from being trapped) and unzips to be machine washable. It also comes with straps in the corners to help secure to your mattress, which is great to limit sliding and shifting.

Weight: Light, not bulky.

It was easy to move and position. Feels premium for slimmer topper under 3 inches.

After four nights of testing the Puffy Deluxe Topper, I noticed less tightness in my shoulders, which usually occurs since I’m a side sleeper and stay in that position all night. We also both slept more soundly though the whole night, with less disturbances from motion transfers.

Does Gel Infusion Really Cool?

High-density foam is prone to trap heat, so mattress and pillow topper manufacturers will add gel into the foam to help distribute body heat. Don’t expect to feel a huge change in temperature. It is mostly a marketing tool to promote products, but it can provide mild cooling and prevent overheating.

Comfort & Feel

The Puffy Deluxe Topper is super soft and has a very luxurious feel to it. The cover really enhances this and is also very soft to touch. It feels so much nicer than raw foam and is less dense. I liked how the cushioning was moderate. I didn’t feel trapped and enveloped by memory foam, but still had pressure relief in my shoulders and hips.

When compared to ultra-soft fiber toppers that flatten easily, this topper had more structured cushioning and was more supportive.  The foam responded well to pressure and quickly bounced back, so I appreciated the slow contouring response.

Cooling & Temperature Regulation

Puffy has done a great job developing a product that has the benefits of foam with good airflow and heat distribution. They have incorporated gel infusion to disperse body heat, and a cover made from breathable material and an open foam structure to help with airflow.

Memory foam is prone to retain body heat as that heat is what activates the foam to make soften, which contours to your body shape along with applied pressure. It is also dense and naturally insulates as the denseness restricts airflow and traps body heat.

This topper was noticeably cooler than cheaper memory foam toppers that we have tried. I tend to be a hot sleeper, but was very comfortable on the Puffy Deluxe topper and did not sweat.

Motion Isolation & Edge Support

When we tested the Puffy Deluxe Topper as a couple, we noticed that the foam absorbed movement effectively. I frequently toss and turn at night and switch sleep positions, but these movements decreased while using the topper, making this an excellent choice for couples.
