If you are looking for a solid mattress with a pillow top and traditional feel, you may want to consider the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge vs Saatva Classic. Both combine a cushioned pillow top with responsive coil support, both feel more like a luxury hotel mattress than a slow-moving memory foam bed and both are delivered full-size rather than compressed in a box.
However, the prices and overall performance are not the same. We tested both in our home and this article we will compare comfort, support, cooling, motion isolation and value to give you our honest thoughts on which mattress will best fit your sleep style.

Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict: Kirkland Lakeridge vs Saatva Classic
Our overall winner is the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm. Its Euro pillow top feels polished and comfortable, while its dual-coil construction provides exceptional lift, airflow and edge stability. It is the better choice for back sleepers, combination sleepers, hot sleepers and shoppers who want multiple firmness options.
The Lakeridge wins for value. It costs ~$1,000 less based on what we paid yet still offers excellent support, very good pressure relief and stronger motion control than many responsive innerspring mattresses.

The 14.5-inch Kirkland Lakeridge Pillow Top is made by Stearns & Foster exclusively for Costco. It uses TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam, an IntelliCoil® support system and a reinforced PrecisionEdge™ perimeter. We paid $999 for a queen, making it one of the most affordable ways to get a heavy, premium-feeling innerspring mattress.
The Saatva Classic is a more customizable luxury innerspring available in three firmness levels and two heights. We tested the 11.5-inch Luxury Firm queen and paid $2,006. It costs considerably more, but it also performed better in cooling, edge support and ease of movement.
The bottom line:
- Choose Saatva Classic if you want a balanced feeling, versatile mattress that performs well across many sleep positions.
- Choose the Kirkland Lakeridge if you want a substantial luxury feel while keeping the budget near $1,000.

Firmness and Feel Comparison
These mattresses are more alike than their price difference suggests. Both feel cushioned on top and strongly supported underneath, without the deep sink of an all-foam bed.
We rated the Lakeridge between 6 and 7 out of 10. Its thick pillow top creates noticeable surface cushioning, but the IntelliCoil® system responds quickly and keeps the body lifted. It feels substantial and luxurious.
We rated the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm 6.5 out of 10. It feels more buoyant and evenly balanced. The Euro top softens the initial contact, while two coil layers make changing positions exceptionally easy. Research does not establish one perfect firmness for everyone, but a randomized trial published in The Lancet found better pain and disability outcomes with medium-firm mattresses than firm mattresses among adults with chronic nonspecific low-back pain. That supports our preference for balanced medium-firm surfaces, but a mattress is not a medical treatment.

Construction and Materials
The 14.5-inch Lakeridge combines a moisture-managing TENCEL™ Lyocell cover, TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam, IntelliCoil® support, PrecisionEdge™ reinforcement and side AirVents. The result is a heavy, traditional pillow-top mattress with recognizable Stearns & Foster components. It is a Costco-exclusive model, not simply a retail Stearns & Foster mattress with a Kirkland label. For a more detailed breakdown, read our Kirkland Lakeridge vs Stearns & Foster comparison.
The Saatva Classic uses an organic cotton Euro top, a targeted lumbar memory-foam layer, individually wrapped comfort coils, a tempered-steel base coil unit and high-density foam rails. Its coil-on-coil design feels more responsive than the Lakeridge and creates more open space for airflow.

Both are well built, but Saatva offers more choices. Lakeridge shoppers receive one 14.5-inch medium pillow-top configuration. Saatva shoppers can select three firmness levels and two heights, which makes it easier to match the mattress to body type, sleep position and bed-frame height.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief was strong in both mattresses. The Lakeridge has a thick pillow top and more foam that absorbs motion. This also provides comfort around the shoulders and hips without sinking too much and losing support. It performed well for back sleeping and reasonably well for side sleeping, although lightweight side sleepers may still find it too firm.

We did not experience noticeable pressure buildup in the shoulders and hips while side sleeping on the Saatva Classic. There was also good lumbar support and our hips stayed level while in the back position.
Overall, the Saatva feels slightly more adaptive, while Lakeridge feels denser and more substantial. Neither deeply cradles the body like a mattress that relies heavily on memory foam. Side sleepers with sensitive joints may prefer Saatva’s Plush Soft option, while sleepers who dislike sinking should be comfortable on either model tested.

Cooling: Which Sleeps Cooler?
The Saatva Classic is the clear cooling winner. It registered 75°F after our 30-minute surface-temperature test and remained temperature-neutral through the night. Its breathable cotton cover and two coil units leave less dense foam surrounding the body.
The Lakeridge did not sleep noticeably hot, but its thick pillow top and TEMPUR-Indulge™ foam hold more warmth close to the body. The TENCEL™ cover, AirVents and coil system help, yet it does not feel actively cool.
Cooling is not only a comfort issue. A peer-reviewed review of the thermal environment and sleep explains that thermoregulation is closely connected to sleep regulation. For chronically hot sleepers, Saatva’s more open construction is a meaningful advantage.
Edge Support
Saatva delivered one of the strongest edge-support results in our testing. We measured only half an inch of compression while seated, and the perimeter felt almost as secure as the center while lying down. This creates more usable space for couples and makes getting out of bed easier.
The Lakeridge’s PrecisionEdge™ system also provides strong perimeter support. We felt stable near the side, but its taller pillow top compressed more visibly while seated. Both earn good marks; Saatva is simply more rigid and consistent at the edge.

Durability and Lifespan
We estimate the Lakeridge can provide approximately seven to 10 years of useful life with the correct foundation and regular rotation. Its IntelliCoil® core and reinforced perimeter feel durable, although thick pillow tops can develop body impressions before their coil systems fail.
We give Saatva the advantage and estimate it may last up to 12 years. Its dual steel-coil design, strong foam rails and shallower comfort materials inspire more confidence against premature sagging. Actual lifespan will depend on sleeper weight, nightly use, foundation support, rotation and moisture protection.
A study comparing older beds with new bedding systems found improvements in reported sleep quality and back discomfort after participants switched mattresses. It does not prove that a mattress must be replaced at a fixed age, but it reinforces why changes in support and comfort matter more than an arbitrary calendar date.
Pricing and Value
We paid $999 for the Lakeridge queen and $2,006 for the 11.5-inch Saatva Classic Luxury Firm queen. That makes the Saatva $1,007 more expensive—or just over twice the tested price of the Lakeridge.
The Saatva earns part of its premium with better cooling, stronger edges, more customization and a more polished balance of cushioning and responsiveness. However, it does not feel twice as comfortable. The Lakeridge still provides a tall profile, premium materials, excellent support and a luxury showroom feel.
Mattress Millionaires Value Insight: If $1,000 is a meaningful difference in your budget, buy the Lakeridge with confidence. Choose Saatva when you are willing to pay more for the stronger all-around performer, a cooler sleep surface and the ability to select your preferred firmness and height.
If the Lakeridge appeals to you but you want a lower-cost alternative, our Kirkland Lakeridge vs Beautyrest Silver comparison explains how it performs against Costco’s budget-focused Beautyrest Silver BRS900.
Best Sleep Positions

Here is a breakdown of how both mattresses performed in various sleep positions during our testing:
| Sleep position | Kirkland | Saatva | Better choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Side sleepers | ★★★★☆ | ★★★★☆ | Saatva slightly for a more adaptive surface |
| Back sleepers | ★★★★★ | ★★★★★ | Tie; both are excellent |
| Stomach sleepers | ★★★☆☆ | ★★★★☆ | Saatva; choose Firm for more lift |
| Combination sleepers | ★★★★☆ | ★★★★★ | Saatva for easier movement |
| Couples | ★★★★☆ | ★★★★☆ | Lakeridge for motion; Saatva for edges |

Final Verdict: Kirkland Lakeridge vs Saatva Classic
Our overall winner is the Saatva Classic Luxury Firm. It earned the higher score because it sleeps cooler, has exceptional edge support and makes changing positions almost effortless. The balanced Euro-top feel worked across more sleep positions, and the choice of three firmness levels makes Saatva easier to recommend to a wider range of shoppers.
That does not make the Lakeridge a lesser purchase. At the $999 price we paid, it is the better value by a wide margin. It feels sturdy, supportive and legitimately premium, and it isolates slightly more partner movement. We would choose it for a primary bedroom when the goal is to get the closest thing to a luxury retail innerspring without spending $2,000.
Choose Saatva for the better mattress overall. Choose Lakeridge for the smarter luxury value.
Kirkland Lakeridge vs Saatva Classic FAQs
Is the Kirkland Lakeridge as good as the Saatva Classic?
It is surprisingly close in support, pressure relief and overall feel, but Saatva performs better in cooling, edge support and responsiveness. Lakeridge provides more performance per dollar.
Which mattress is better for back sleepers?
Both earned five stars for back sleeping. Lakeridge feels denser and more substantial; Saatva feels more balanced and buoyant. Choose based on price and preferred feel.
Which is better for side sleepers?
The Saatva Luxury Firm wins narrowly because its Euro top felt more adaptive around the shoulder and hip. Lightweight side sleepers may prefer Saatva Plush Soft over either medium-firm model tested.
Which mattress is better for couples?
Lakeridge absorbs slightly more movement, while Saatva has the stronger perimeter and a cooler surface. Motion-sensitive couples should lean Lakeridge; couples who spread out or sleep hot should lean Saatva.
Does the Kirkland Lakeridge sleep hot?
It slept temperature-neutral in our testing. Its vents, TENCEL™ cover and coil core promote airflow, but its thick pillow top retains more warmth than the Saatva Classic.
Is the Saatva Classic worth twice the price?
Not for every shopper. Saatva is the stronger mattress, but it does not feel twice as good. The higher price makes sense if cooling, firmness choices and exceptional edge support are priorities. Otherwise, the Lakeridge is the smarter value.
Which mattress should last longer?
Saatva has the advantage. We estimate up to 12 years for the Saatva Classic and approximately seven to 10 years for the Lakeridge, depending on use, body weight, foundation and care.
Are these mattresses compressed in a box?
No. Both are delivered full-size. This avoids the expansion period and strong compressed-foam odor common with some boxed mattresses, but both are heavy and should be moved by professional delivery teams.
