The Avocado Green Mattress stands apart from other hybrid mattresses we have tested, but not for the reason you might expect. Avocado is known for using certified organic materials and having a solid, durable latex hybrid construction. In this hands-on review, we will analyze comfort, firmness, support, cooling, edge support and value and give our recommendation for what type of sleeper will benefit the most.

Mattress Millionaires Quick Verdict: Avocado Green Mattress
The Avocado Green mattress is a premium, organic, latex hybrid mattress with strong edge support, easy movement, and a notably firm and flat surface feel. This combination of qualities works especially well for stomach sleepers and anyone who prefers to feel like they are sleeping on top of the mattress instead of being cradled by memory foam.
We tested the Medium firmness model (also available in Firm and Plush) and the biggest thing that stood out was that it felt closer to a traditional firm innerspring mattress than other medium hybrid mattresses we have tested. The surface stayed flat beneath the body and was easy to move on. It was not as comfortable for side sleeping, because it did not provide enough cushioning and pressure relief around the hips and shoulders.
The mattress has a distinctive look and feel. Its organic cotton cover has a rougher, wrinkled texture that reminded us of terry cloth or a seersucker rather than a smooth, silky cover found on many luxury mattresses. Yarn rosettes secure the hand-tufted surface and reinforce the handcrafted, natural appearance.
At the time of testing we paid $2,399 for a queen Avocado Green. This puts the mattress in the premium, luxury category, but the high quality of the materials, organic certifications, reinforced construction, 365-night trial and 25-year limited warranty help justify the premium price.
β Avocado Green Is Best For:
- Stomach sleepers who prefer a flat, supportive surface
- Back sleepers who need a firmer mattress
- Heavier weight sleepers who need strong support and pushback
- Hot sleepers who want natural, breathable materials
- Combination sleepers who change positions frequently
- Sleepers who dislike the slow, sinking sensation of memory foam
- Shoppers prioritizing certified organic and low-emission materials
- Buyers willing to pay more for premium construction and materials
X Avocado Green is Not Best For:
- Lightweight side sleepers who need substantial cushioning
- Sleepers needing strong pressure relief in the shoulders or hips
- Anyone who prefers a plush, cushioned surface or a deep memory foam hug
- Budget-conscious shoppers who want a mattress under $1,500
- People who prefer a smooth, silky mattress cover
- Shoppers who are allergic or sensitive to natural latex or wool materials and odors
The Bottom Line
The Avocado Green is exceptionally well made, supportive, and responsive. It is a great choice for anyone who prefers a firmer, flat surface and organic materials.
People who prefer a plush surface with deep cushioning may not find the Avocado Green Medium tight-top comfortable enough, especially while side sleeping as pressure is more condensed in the shoulders and hips. The mattress is available in a Plush model that includes a pillow-top.
Mattress Millionaires Scorecard: Avocado Green
Here is how the Avocado Green Medium performed during our hands-on testing:
| Testing Category | Rating | Score | Expert Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfort | β β β β β | 8.0 / 10 | Supportive and well made, but the Medium feels flatter and firmer than most medium mattresses we have tested. |
| Firmness | β β β β β | 8.5 / 10 | Avocado rates the Medium at 6 out of 10, but we thought it felt closer to 7β7.5, with a firm innerspring-like feel. |
| Pressure Relief | β β β ββ | 7.5 / 10 | Adequate for back and stomach sleeping, but we experienced uncomfortable hip compression while lying on our side. |
| Support | β β β β β | 9.5 / 10 | One of its strongest categories. The mattress kept the body lifted and provided excellent support beneath the midsection. |
| Motion Isolation | β β β β β | 7.5 / 10 | Good for a responsive latex hybrid, but its buoyant surface transfers more movement than slow-moving memory foam. |
| Edge Support | β β β β β | 9.5 / 10 | Excellent stability while sitting or lying near the perimeter. Couples should be able to use nearly the entire surface. |
| Cooling | β β β β β | 9.0 / 10 | Breathable cotton, wool, latex, and coils promote airflow. Limited sinkage also reduces heat buildup around the body. |
| Responsiveness | β β β β β | 9.5 / 10 | The latex and coil system rebounded quickly, making it easy to roll over, change positions, and get out of bed. |
| Sinkage | β β β β β | 8.5 / 10 | Minimal sinkage creates a flat, stable surface. This benefits stomach sleepers but limits pressure relief for side sleepers. |
| Durability Feel | β β β β β | 9.5 / 10 | The latex, reinforced coils, hand tufting, and substantial overall construction made the mattress feel exceptionally well built. |
| Noise & Off-Gassing | β β β ββ | 7.5 / 10 | It did not have typical chemical off-gassing, but our mattress had a strong, unusual initial odor that reminded us of cigarettes. |
| Sex Performance | β β β β β | 9.5 / 10 | Strong edges, high responsiveness, good cooling, and easy movement make this an excellent mattress for sex. |
| Overall Score | β β β β β | 8.6 / 10 | A premium organic hybrid with exceptional support, edges, and responsiveness, but the Medium may be too firm for side sleepers who need deeper pressure relief. |
How We Scored
Every product we review is tested using a clear, repeatable methodology. We evaluate construction, pressure relief, spinal alignment, cooling, motion isolation, edge support, responsiveness, and real-world sleep performance through multiple-night testing.
Our content includes our original photos, our own measurements, and our own results. We also let you know our honest thoughts onΒ how a mattress actually feels, not just lab-style metrics, because real life matters more than just specs.
Unboxing And First Impression
The Avocado Green was delivered compressed in a box and required the two of us to lift and set up. This was the same set-up process as other boxed hybrids we have reviewed, but was on the heavier side due to the construction.

Since the Avocado Green is made with organic latex and cotton, we did NOT notice the typical off-gassing that comes with polyurethane foam mattresses, but there was an unusual odor from the natural latex that was strong for the first day and then subsided.
Our initial impression was that it felt firmer than most medium mattresses we have tested and we did not feel much cushioning or thick foam beneath us. Instead, it felt more like a traditional innerspring mattress with strong pushback that keeps you lifted and very little body contouring.
Comfort
The comfort you get with the Avocado Green comes primarily from its stability, support, organic materials and the absence of deep sinkage.
When I first lay down, the mattress felt flat and substantial. The latex was noticeable in the construction as it was responsive.

Overall, the sensation was like lying on a high-quality innerspring mattress than a cloud-like, foam heavy hybrid. The organic cotton cover also feels different from the polished stretch-knit covers used by many competing brands. It has a textured, slightly rough, naturally wrinkled finish that reminded us of terry cloth or seersucker. The yarn rosettes create visible tufts across the surface.
The look reinforces Avocadoβs natural, handcrafted positioning, but the surface does not feel conventionally luxurious in the same way as a silky quilted cover.
Firmness
Mattress Millionaires Firmness rating: 7/10
We felt the Avocado Green was firmer than we would expect from a Medium mattress. Body weight and preferred sleep position can influence how firmness is perceived, but shoppers should still expect this mattress to feel supportive, firm and relatively flat.
Although some sleepers prefer a firm surface, harder is not automatically better for everyone. A systematic review of mattress research found that medium-firm mattresses generally produced the best results for comfort, sleep quality, and spinal alignment, which is another reason shoppers should pay attention to how firm the Avocado Green Medium may feel in practice.
The Avocado Green collection also comes in Firm and Plush models. Firm also has a tight-top and will feel best to back and stomach sleepers. Plush includes a soft pillow-top for extra cushioning for side sleepers.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is the Avocado Green Mediumβs most significant limitation.
While lying on my side, I noticed discomfort and compression around my hip. Instead of allowing the hip to settle gradually into the mattress, the surface maintained strong resistance. That concentrated more pressure around the point of contact.
This type of surface is more suitable for stomach and back sleepers who do not need the same amount of cushioning and contouring around the shoulders and hips.
Support
Support is one of the top reasons to choose the Avocado Green.
The mattress kept our bodies elevated and prevented the midsection from sinking excessively. This is especially important for stomach sleepers, who can experience lower-back strain when the hips fall too deeply into a soft mattress.
Avocado uses a zoned coil system designed to provide firmer reinforcement around the lumbar region and more flexibility near the shoulders. Firmer coils also reinforce the perimeter.
We could feel the overall strength of the support system more than the individual zoning. The mattress provided consistent pushback and maintained a level sleeping surface.
Back sleepers who like pronounced lumbar support should also find it appealing. However, back sleepers who prefer a little more contouring around the lower back may consider it too firm.
Motion Isolation
The Avocado Green performed adequately for a latex hybrid, which is naturally more responsive with less motion isolation than a mattress with more memory foam.
The individually wrapped coils help reduce the amount of movement traveling across the mattress.

Nevertheless, latex rebounds quickly, and the surface has noticeable spring. A partner changing positions is more likely to produce visible or perceptible movement than on a slow-moving all-foam mattress.
Edge Support
Edge support was excellent. We measured about one inch of compression in our sitting on the edge test.

It was also comfortable to lie near the perimeter and feel stable and equally supported.
A stable edge can also make getting in and out of bed easier for people with mobility limitations. Additionally, physical therapists consistently recommend mattresses with strong edge support for patients with joint issues or limited mobility.
Cooling
We found that the Avocado Green provides good cooling for most sleepers. It is able to avoid significant heat retention from the breathable organic cotton, latex and wool and the open coil system that promotes airflow through the mattress.
The limited sinkage also helps. Because the mattress keeps most of the body above the surface, less material wraps around the torso and traps heat.
Avocado states that its wool acts as both a temperature-regulating layer and a natural flame barrier, while the latex and coil system promote airflow.
We would recommend it for hot sleepers who want breathable materials without the artificial cooling sensation found on some performance covers.
Responsiveness
The Avocado Green is highly responsive and it is one of the first sensations we noticed with this mattress. The surface regained its shape almost immediately after pressure was removed.
It was also very easy to change positions, so this mattress will work well for combination sleepers.
Sinkage
We observed minimal sinkage during our testing. The mattress allowed enough compression to prevent it from feeling like a completely rigid board, but our bodies stayed primarily on top of the surface. We did not experience the deep, body-conforming depression associated with memory foam.
This restrained sinkage contributes to the excellent stomach-sleeping performance and strong edge support. It is less beneficial for side sleepers, who may need more contouring around the hips and shoulders.
Sex Performance
The Avocado Green should perform very well for sex.
Its greatest advantages are fast responsiveness, strong edge support, good temperature regulation, and high bounce. Partners can move easily without fighting a deep indentation, and the sturdy perimeter makes more of the surface usable.
The mattress is also quieter than many conventional innerspring mattresses. While it may not be completely silent, noise should not be a major concern when the mattress is placed on a compatible, stable foundation.
Couples who prioritize bounce and freedom of movement are likely to prefer the Avocado over slow-response memory foam.
Durability
The Avocado Green appears exceptionally well constructed.
Latex is generally associated with better long-term resilience than lower-density polyurethane foam, while the individually wrapped steel coils provide a substantial support structure. Hand tufting secures the layers without relying entirely on adhesives.
Avocado lists that the Green Medium model weighs 101 pounds in a queen size, demonstrating how substantial the materials are despite the relatively modest 11-inch profile. The company backs the mattress with a 25-year limited warranty, which will protect you from defects but not normal softening from consistent, heavy use.
Sleep Positions
The Avocado Green Medium performed best for sleepers who need firm support, strong lift, and easy movement. Stomach sleeping was its strongest position during our testing. Side sleeping was the weakest because the mattress did not provide enough cushioning around the hip.

| Sleep Position | Rating | Fit | Expert Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | β β β β β | Very Good | The mattress keeps the hips lifted and provides strong lumbar support. It is best for back sleepers who prefer a firmer, flatter surface. |
| Side Sleepers | β β β ββ | Mixed | We experienced noticeable compression around the hip. Side sleepers who need deeper cushioning should consider the Plush or Ultra Plush model. |
| Stomach Sleepers | β β β β β | Excellent | The strongest match in our testing. The firm, flat surface prevents the hips from sinking too deeply and keeps the body well supported. |
| Combination Sleepers | β β β β β | Very Good | The responsive latex and coils make repositioning easy. However, sleepers who spend significant time on their side may want more pressure relief. |
| Couples | β β β β β | Very Good | Excellent edge support creates more usable space. Motion isolation is good for a latex hybrid, although not as still as memory foam. |
| Heavy Sleepers | β β β β β | Excellent | The strong coil system, limited sinkage, and reinforced perimeter make the Medium a compelling option for heavier back and stomach sleepers. |
| Lightweight Sleepers | β β β ββ | Fair | Lightweight sleepers may not compress the latex enough to experience adequate cushioning, particularly while sleeping on their side. |

Construction
Here is a breakdown of each layer in the Avocado Green and why it is important:
| Layer | Material | Purpose | What Youβll Notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cover | GOTS-certified organic cotton | Creates a breathable sleeping surface without a synthetic stretch-knit fabric. | The cover has a naturally wrinkled, textured finish that reminded us of terry cloth or seersucker rather than a smooth, silky luxury cover. |
| Quilting Layer | GOTS-certified organic wool | Helps regulate temperature, wick moisture, and provide a natural flame barrier without fiberglass. | The surface feels breathable and temperature-neutral, but the wool does not create the thick, plush cushioning found in many pillow-top hybrids. |
| Comfort Layer | 2 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex | Adds resilience, pressure relief, and responsive support without polyurethane or memory foam. | The latex responds quickly, but we did not feel a noticeable foam hug. The surface remained flat, firm, and more innerspring-like than cushioned. |
| Support Core | Up to 1,379 individually wrapped coils arranged in seven ergonomic zones | Supports the spine, reinforces the lumbar area, improves airflow, and limits unnecessary motion across the surface. | This layer dominates the overall feel. It keeps the body lifted and makes the Medium especially supportive for back and stomach sleeping. |
| Edge System | Firmer perimeter coils surrounding all four sides | Prevents excessive perimeter collapse and increases the usable sleeping area. | The edges felt exceptionally strong while sitting and lying near the side. Couples should be able to use nearly the full queen-size surface. |
| Base Layer | 1 inch of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex | Provides a stable, durable foundation beneath the coil system and brings the Mediumβs total latex content to 3 inches. | The mattress feels substantial and structurally stable without needing a thick polyurethane foam base. |
| Tufting | Organic cotton ribbons and yarn rosettes | Secures the internal layers without relying on chemical adhesives and helps maintain the mattressβs shape. | The yarn rosettes create visible button-like tufts and give the mattress its distinctive handcrafted, natural appearance. |
The combination of Dunlop latex and zoned coils explains why the Avocado Green Medium felt more like a high-quality innerspring than a typical foam hybrid. The mattress is responsive, supportive, and easy to move on, but it does not offer the deep cushioning that many side sleepers need around the hips and shoulders.

Pricing & Value
We paid $2,399 for a queen-size Avocado Green Mattress at the time of testing.
The Avocado Green is more expensive than many mainstream hybrids, which places it firmly in the premium online mattress category. Its premium price is justified by the value it provides in areas that are costly to reproduce: certified organic latex, organic cotton and wool, extensive finished-product certifications, zoned coils, reinforced edges, hand tufting, and California assembly.
Avocado also provides a 365-night sleep trial and a 25-year limited warranty. Promotions and product configurations change, so shoppers should compare Avocadoβs current sale price with the precise firmness option they are considering, and confirm current policies.
At $2,399, we consider the mattress a good value for shoppers who genuinely prioritize organic construction and firm support. It is not a good value if you buy it based on materials alone and discover that the surface is too firm for your body.
Comparisons
Avocado Green vs. Saatva Classic: Both have responsive, innerspring-influenced feels and strong support. The Saatva Classic has a more conventionally cushioned Euro-top, while the Avocado emphasizes organic latex and certified materials. The Avocado should appeal more to organic-minded shoppers; the Saatva may feel more luxurious to someone who wants noticeable surface padding.
Avocado Green vs. Bear Elite Hybrid: The Bear Elite has a softer, more pillowy top and provides more initial cushioning. The Avocado feels flatter, firmer, and more natural. Athletes and stomach sleepers could appreciate either mattress, but side sleepers are more likely to prefer the Bear Eliteβs pressure relief.
Avocado Green vs. Leesa Sapira Hybrid: The Leesa has a smoother cover and a more balanced foam-and-coil feel. The Avocado is more responsive and has a stronger innerspring character. Choose the Avocado for organic materials and firm support; choose the Leesa if you want a more familiar medium-hybrid feel.
Avocado Green vs WinkBed: Both offer strong edge support and an elevated sleeping position. The WinkBed has a more traditional luxury-hotel feel, while the Avocado feels simpler, flatter, and less cushioned. The Avocado has the advantage in certified organic materials.
Avocado Green Medium vs. Avocado Green Plush: The Medium is best for stomach sleepers, firm-mattress fans, and people who want minimal sinkage. The Plush adds an attached pillow top and considerably more latex. Side sleepers and people with pressure-sensitive joints should strongly consider the Plush despite its higher price.
Final Verdict
The Avocado Green Mattress is one of the most impressively constructed mattresses we have tested, but its firm responsive feel may not be ideal for luxury shoppers seeking deep cushioning. It is more supportive than plush.
Its organic materials, strong edge support, responsive surface, cooling performance, and durable design are legitimate strengths. This does not feel like a generic foam mattress with an organic cotton cover added for marketing. The entire construction has a distinctive natural-latex and innerspring character.
We recommend the Avocado Green for stomach sleepers, back sleepers, heavier individuals, hot sleepers, and people who want to avoid polyurethane foam. Side sleepers and shoppers seeking a soft, luxurious surface should consider the Plush or Ultra Plush configuration instead.
FAQs on the Avocado Green Mattress
Is the Avocado Green Mattress firm?
Yes. We tested the Medium and rated it approximately 7 to 7.5 out of 10. It felt firmer than most medium mattresses we have tested.
Is the Avocado Green good for side sleepers?
The Medium may be too firm for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers. I experienced noticeable compression around my hip. The Plush or Ultra Plush model should be more suitable for dedicated side sleeping.
Is it good for stomach sleepers?
Yes. Its flat surface, strong pushback, and limited sinkage make it particularly well suited to stomach sleepers.
Does the Avocado Green contain memory foam?
No. The Avocado Green uses latex rather than polyurethane or memory foam. Its feel is buoyant and responsive rather than slow and body-hugging.
Does the Avocado Green mattress sleep hot?
The Avocado Green should sleep relatively cool. Cotton, wool, latex, and the coil system all promote breathability, while the limited sinkage reduces the amount of material surrounding the body.
Does it have good edge support?
Yes. Edge support was one of its strongest qualities. The sides remained stable while sitting and lying near the perimeter.
Does the Avocado Green smell?
Our mattress had an unusual initial odor that reminded us somewhat of cigarettes, although it did not smell like typical chemical off-gassing. Natural latex and wool can produce distinctive odors after unboxing. Allow the mattress to air out in a well-ventilated room.
Is the cotton cover soft?
We found the cover more textured than soft. It had a rough, wrinkled finish similar to terry cloth or seersucker, along with yarn rosettes used in the hand-tufted construction.
How thick is the Avocado Green Medium?
The current Medium model is 11 inches tall. Avocado lists the queen at 80 by 60 inches and approximately 101 pounds.
Is the Avocado Green worth the price?
It is worth considering if you prioritize certified organic materials, firm support, cooling, responsiveness, and durability. It is less compelling for shoppers who primarily want softness or the lowest possible price.
